DHDuring our Summer Skills Series, we ended with a Chalk Talk about something I believe every athlete—and every person—needs to hear:
Embrace failure.
At the start of the session, I told the girls it was okay to mess up. Why? Because they showed up to get better. Because improvement doesn’t live in perfection—it lives in effort.
It lives in trying something new, in stepping outside your comfort zone, and in doing the hard things others shy away from.
I reminded them (and myself) that failure is not the opposite of success—it’s part of it. Just like riding a bike, the first time might feel shaky. The hundredth time? It’s second nature. But you don’t get there without a few falls.
Grit is built in the struggle.
Toughness is forged in the process.
Failure isn’t a sign to quit. It’s proof you’re pushing. Growing. Becoming.
And that’s what this sport is all about.
Not just building better athletes—but better humans.
Because how you respond to the tough moments on the field…is how you’ll rise in life.
