Why Your Change Efforts May Be Failing and What To Do In today’s fast-evolving world, leadership teams must understand the critical factors that drive successful change management. Over the next series of videos, we’re going introduce the six most essential elements we coach our clients through. The first key? Vision. A clear direction, backed by data, is non-negotiable for complex change. But here’s the mistake many leaders make: they announce the change once—via email, a meeting, or a manual—and expect alignment. That’s not enough. Repetition, clarity, and ongoing communication through verbal and written channels are essential. Without it? Confusion takes over. The second key? True Consensus. A massive misconception is that just talking about change—sending an email or hosting a meeting—builds buy-in. It doesn’t. If people feel unheard or excluded, you’ll get silent resistance, better known as “Sabotage.” You’ve seen it before: that polite smile in the meeting, followed by “Yeah… I’m not doing that” behind closed doors. To truly create alignment, leaders must intentionally involve people in the process—through surveys, focus groups, think tanks, and one-on-ones. Think about the federal-level changes impacting organizations today. Many are not technical fixes; they’re complex, involving multiple stakeholders, layers, and challenges with no simple solution. 🔹 Take action: Set a clear vision, even in ambiguity.
