Artificial intelligence is already part of everyday life for young people, from chatbots to digital companions that can entertain, teach, and even offer emotional support. It also brings up big questions about privacy, dependence, and emotional growth. In this webinar, Dr. Michael Robb from Common Sense Media will walk parents and caregivers through how young people are really using AI and what the research says about the risks and trade-offs. You’ll come away with simple ways to have honest, age-appropriate conversations and time to get your questions answered during an extended live Q&A. We’re raising the first generation of kids who will grow up with AI as a normal tool. The real question isn’t whether they will use it — they will. The question is whether we can teach them how to think before they ask the machine to think for them. Technology should expand curiosity, not replace it. That balance is going to define the next generation.

PSA for every mom who’s ever typed “is this rash normal” or “how do I handle my kid’s meltdowns” into ChatGPT. 👀 By default, your conversations can be used to train OpenAI’s models. That means your personal questions, your venting sessions, your 2am parenting spirals… all fair game. The good news? You can turn it off in about 30 seconds: Settings > Data Controls > “Improve the model for everyone” > OFF Your chat history stays put. ChatGPT works exactly the same. You just stop contributing your data to their training pipeline. Bonus: Use Temporary Chat for anything extra sensitive. Those conversations don’t save to history or get used for training at all. I tested this so you don’t have to. Now go check your settings. 💬 Drop a “done” in the comments when you’ve turned it off. 📌 Save this for next time you help a friend set up ChatGPT. #aimomlab #aiforparents #chatgpttips

Yesterday I joined Australia’s @morningshowon7 for a short segment about kids, gaming, and online safety. The conversation grew out of a post I shared recently about the apps I would and wouldn’t allow my own kids to use as a former sex crimes prosecutor. During the segment, we talked about platforms like Discord, Roblox, and Fortnite, and the broader question many parents are navigating right now, as so much of kids’ interaction happens online. One of the questions I was asked was: “So what apps are safe?” My answer was that it’s not always about finding a single “safe” or “unsafe” app. I think the first step is for parents to recognize that THERE ARE ways to create safer environments for kids online, and we can start by looking at the purpose of the platform and asking questions like: - Is the purpose of the platform to engage with other people? - Is there a way to play the game without multiplayer mode? - Can it be played offline, rather than connected online? - Can kids easily override parental controls? There are many games kids can play safely when they are not in multiplayer mode, or when they are playing with people they know from their in-person lives, a friend from school, or someone sitting next to them on the couch. The question parents really have to answer is - Does this work for our family? Is this safe for my child? I’m very grateful for the opportunity to continue this conversation on Australia’s The Morning Show. Thanks so much for having me!

The government of Australia is reportedly considering extending its youth online safety laws to **ban AI chatbots like ChatGPT and Gemini for users under the age of 16. The proposal comes after Australia introduced strict rules targeting social media platforms used by minors. Officials say the move is aimed at protecting children from potential risks associated with generative AI, including misinformation and harmful content, as governments globally debate regulations for rapidly growing AI technologies. People ask why FieldMind exists if tools like ChatGPT already do. Simple. ChatGPT was built for curiosity. FieldMind was built for responsibility. When a system is down and the fix has to be right the first time, “close enough” isn’t good enough. FieldMind only uses knowledge you trust. No guessing. No forum advice from 2012. ChatGPT answers questions. FieldMind keeps the work moving. ⚙️

Navigating the digital world with young children is one of the most challenging tasks for parents today. It’s no longer just about monitoring screen time; it’s about active participation and safety. Setting clear boundaries like strict timers is a great start, but it’s crucial to move away from using devices as digital babysitters. One effective strategy is to parallel mirror content—casting what kids are viewing onto the family television so their online experience becomes a shared, transparent environment rather than a hidden one. Beyond household habits, there is also a growing push to demand more accountability from tech companies to ensure the safety and responsibility of the algorithms shaping the next generation. Protecting our kids online requires a shift from passive observation to active engagement and systemic change. #DigitalParenting #OnlineSafety #ScreenTimeTips #HealthyTechHabits #ParentingInTheDigitalAge
