Even just a few aphids can signal the start of a bigger problem. In this video, we highlight 4 out of the hundreds of aphid species that affect crops: the Cotton Aphid, Root Aphid, Green Peach Aphid, and the Strawberry Aphid. Each has its preferred host and feeding habits, but all can impact plant health, stunting growth and spreading viruses if populations go unnoticed. Early detection is key! Monitoring, sticky cards, and integrating beneficials like Parasitoids (Aphipar, Ervipar, etc.), gall midges (Aphidend), or beneficial insects (Chrysopa) can help manage populations naturally. Keep a close eye on your crops, and don’t hesitate to reach out to your technical consultant or sales@koppert.ca for guidance. #Aphids #CottonAphid #RootAphid #StrawberryAphid #GreenPeachAphid #PestMonitoring #IPM #BiologicalControl #PlantHealth #BeneficialInsects #LeafyGreens #GreenhouseCrops #Ornamentals #CannabisCultivation #SustainableGrowing #KoppertCanada

Mealybugs are a persistent pest; their waxy coating and cryptic habits make them difficult to suppress with traditional chemical sprays. That’s where biological solutions like Cryptobug-L can play a powerful role in an integrated pest management program. Cryptobug-L contains larvae of the predatory beetle Cryptolaemus montrouzieri, a specialist natural enemy of mealybugs. Both the larvae and adults actively consume mealybugs, attacking all mobile stages of the pest and targeting infestations directly at the source. The result is strong, sustainable suppression of mealybug populations with minimal chemical input in your growing facility. Fight nature with nature. 🌱 #BiologicalControl #IPM #MealybugManagement #GreenhousePests #IntegratedPestManagement

Myzus persicae (aphid). A tiny drop of sea foam. As small as this guy is, they serve a huge purpose. Ants farm them for their honeydew-like substance. Ladybug & lacewing larva depend on them, even birds. That’s probably the coolest thing about gardening. Everything has a role. Most people see pests. But if you slow down, you start to see relationships. Nothing here exists on its own, and the smallest change can affect the entire trophic cycle. I’ve always held to the philosophy that if nothing is eating your plants, you’re not supporting life. In my opinion the garden isn’t a sterile place and when that happens it becomes lifeless, which is ironic considering pesticides are thrown in our face daily through marketing. Pests aren’t an issue when you support their predators. Romans 1:20 GG

Meet Montdo- mite! (Transeius montdorensis), a predator for thrips that’s always ready.💪🏾 It’s small, adaptable, and constantly working behind the scenes in your crop! While thrips are just getting started, Montdo is already active feeding on young thrips larvae and sustaining itself on pollen to stay established. Within the Koppert Macros Program, Montdo is an early stabilizer that creates balance and preparedness. Prevention starts before pest pressure is visible🌹🚜 To learn more about this and other Thrips solutions 👉https://lnkd.in/g-5Bzcvg #Koppert #MacrosProgram #Biocontrol #ThripsControl #WhiteflyControl IPM

I've been traveling in the EU recently and I spoke with someone who observed root aphids in their cultivation facility, along with ants that were carrying them and taking care of them in the canna-crop. No ID on the ants, but these are not the typical Rice Root Aphid (Rhopalosiphum rufiabdominale) but what strongly resembles Pemphigus sp., a different family altogether with different traits, hosts, global ranges and capabilities. I've also encountered root mealybugs and other Pemphigus in cannabiculture, so be on the lookout for this additional root aphid. Management is contextual but in my experience, similar treatments work for both root aphids, so you shouldn't have to change that approach, but how they colonize your region may be different. Check if Pemphigus is common in your area!
