HEWhat a “fully funded” classroom actually looks like… and what it takes to turn it into a space where kids can thrive 💛
In my classroom, most of the tables and chairs, the desks, the furniture, the books, the cozy corners, the art on the walls — you’re looking at items I’ve purchased by myself, with my own paycheque. Not because I was asked to — because I want my students to walk into a room that feels safe, welcoming, and built just for them.
Schools and school divisions are doing what they can with the budgets they’re given…. But if we want classrooms that reflect the needs of today’s learners, with cozy, calming spaces, books, flexible seating, and inclusive options — we need to push for real investment in public education, and pay teachers accordingly to allow for these undertakings (like transforming an empty classroom).
Teachers are filling the gaps, but we shouldn’t have to do it alone. 🤍
