In the heat of an ACC battle, there’s "physical play," and then there’s what happened in Littlejohn Coliseum in 2022. Late in the first half, Duke’s Wendell Moore Jr. stole a pass and streaked down the court for what looked like a routine breakaway dunk. What happened next became one of the most controversial sequences in recent rivalry history.
Clemson’s David Collins chased Moore down, but instead of a standard block attempt, he delivered a high-speed, body-checking foul that sent Moore flying mid-air. Moore crashed violently to the hardwood, landing on his back in a fall that had the entire Duke bench—and Coach K—on the floor in seconds. The play was immediately ruled a Flagrant 2, resulting in Collins’ ejection. While Collins later issued a sincere apology and even shared a moment with Mike Krzyzewski before leaving the court, the play was labeled by many as "reckless" and "dangerous."
