Residents in Northwest Side’s Belmont Gardens neighborhood have been living with a mysterious, loud droning noise for weeks — a low hum that some compare to a rocket taking off. Neighbors say it disrupted dinners, movies and everyday life as they tried to track down the source.
After numerous complaints to local officials, the alderman confirmed the noise was coming from a building boiler that needed repair parts — and neighbors report it’s finally quiet again.

Fainmous BBQ at 1201 Oliver St. has launched a GoFundMe after receiving a lease default notice demanding more than $72,000 by this weekend.
Owners James and Karen Fain say COVID-19 shutdowns, a delayed move-in and years of nearby construction led to unpaid rent dating back to December 2022. Lovett Commercial said in a statement that it worked in good faith and offered a structured payment plan.
The couple says the crowdfunding effort is meant to help them relocate, not pay off the debt.
