Have you seen this logo before? This is our SG Fresh Produce (SGFP) logo, which helps consumers easily identify and support local produce. Consumer awareness of local produce has been growing. In fact, based on a survey by @sgfoodagency, 75% of consumers have seen the logo and purchased local produce, up from 58% in 2023. As of January 2025, the logo is being used by over 100 local farmers, distributors, and retailers. Beyond the SGFP, we are also working with the industry to encourage and facilitate the offtake of local produce through initiatives like the industry-level supply and demand aggregator and the Farm-To-Table Recognition Programme (FTTRP), which strengthens demand for local produce. Do look out for this red and white logo the next time you are grocery shopping! When you buy local produce, you not only get it fresher, you are also supporting local farms. This in turn strengthens our local food production ecosystem to mitigate the impact of supply disruptions. Video credit: SFA

Companies may use unsubstantiated claims, vague language, or even eco-friendly imagery to create a false impression of sustainability. Consider this: A 2021 study by the European Commission found that 42% of green claims were exaggerated, false, or deceptive. This highlights the prevalence of greenwashing and the need for consumer awareness. A fashion brand claiming to be sustainable while using environmentally damaging materials or an energy company touting renewable investments while primarily relying on fossil fuels. These deceptive practices undermine trust and mislead conscious consumers. In the world of fast fashion where you can get a runway look into someone’s hands in under a week these questions are becoming more and more important. The impact is significant! Greenwashing not only harms genuinely green businesses but also misleads investors and consumers seeking sustainable choices. Studies suggest that consumers are willing to pay a premium for eco-friendly products, making them vulnerable to greenwashing tactics. How can you protect yourself? Be an informed consumer. Scrutinize claims, look for third-party certifications, and research companies’ environmental track records. Remember, true sustainability is transparent and backed by science. It’s impact must be quantified. Understanding your money values is key to investing sustainably. It’s one of the 25 things that I recommend in my Financial Fitness Checklist.
