In 1923, when Edwin Hubble showed that the faint spiral in the sky known as Andromeda was an entire galaxy beyond our own, humanity’s sense of the universe expanded dramatically. It meant the Milky Way was not the whole cosmos. Our galaxy itself spans about one hundred thousand light-years and contains hundreds of billions of stars. Yet it is only one among hundreds of billions of galaxies scattered across the observable universe, each carrying its own vast population of suns, planets, and cosmic structures. Distance stretches beyond ordinary comprehension. Light, the fastest thing in nature, takes millions or even billions of years to travel between these islands of stars. The deeper we look into space, the larger the universe becomes, revealing layers of structure extending far beyond the limits of our everyday imagination. A cosmos built on staggering scale. And in the video, Brian Cox reflects on this immense perspective, explaining how the true scale of the universe reshapes our understanding of distance, time, and our place within it. In Einstein’s theory of relativity, time is not separate from space. Instead, both are combined into a four-dimensional framework called spacetime, where space and time are deeply connected and influence each other. 🌌⏳ One interesting idea related to this is the Block Universe theory. According to this concept, the past, present, and future are not separate things happening one after another, but instead they all exist together within spacetime, like different locations on a map. 🗺️✨ This means every moment of your life could be seen as already existing somewhere in the spacetime structure. But this does not necessarily mean that our lives are completely fixed or that we don’t have free will. ⚖️ The theory mainly explains how events are arranged in spacetime from a physics perspective, not whether our choices are predetermined. From our human point of view, we still experience life moment by moment, making decisions, learning, changing, and shaping our future as time appears to move forward. 🚶‍♂️⏱️ So even if spacetime contains all moments, we still live through them step by step, through our choices and experiences. #Relativity #Spacetime #BlockUniverse #Physics #Cosmology

The observable universe is estimated to be about 93 billion light years in diameter based on current cosmological models. Because of the expansion of space we can only see a portion of the entire universe and its true size may be far larger or even infinite. This concept is based on the Big Bang and ongoing research in astrophysics that continues to reshape our understanding of space and reality. Dark matter is one of the biggest mysteries in the universe. When scientists observe galaxies, they notice something strange — they rotate far too fast to be held together by the visible matter alone. There must be something else… something invisible, adding extra gravity. This “something” is what we call dark matter. It doesn’t emit or reflect light, which is why we can’t see it — but we know it’s there because of how it affects galaxies and the structure of the universe. Even more surprising: dark matter makes up about 85% of all matter in the universe. And yet, we still haven’t directly detected it. So the question is — what is most of the universe actually made of? #space #universe #astronomy #briancox #cosmos #darkmatter #science #astrophysics #spacefacts #universefacts #galaxy #cosmology #physics #reels #explore #viral #spaceexploration

Every atom in your body has a story. The hydrogen in you was born in the Big Bang. The carbon in your cells, the oxygen in your lungs, the iron in your blood — all of it was forged inside ancient stars that died billions of years ago. Those stars exploded, scattering their elements across space, until one day those same atoms became planets, oceans, trees… and you. You are not separate from the universe. You are one small part of it, finally able to look back and understand where it came from. We are literally made of stardust. And for a brief moment, the universe becomes conscious through us. #space #universe #astronomy #science #stardust #cosmos #astrophysics #neildegrassetyson #spacefacts #cosmology #facts #sciencefacts

In 1989, astronomers mapping the universe on its largest scales uncovered something unexpected. Galaxies were not scattered randomly through space. Instead, they were arranged in vast filaments and walls, stretching across unimaginable distances. One of these discoveries became known as a “great wall” of galaxies, a colossal structure made of thousands of galaxies bound together by gravity, extending hundreds of millions of light-years across space. Each galaxy inside it holds billions of stars, yet together they form something even larger than anyone thought possible. On these scales, the universe looks less like empty darkness and more like a cosmic web. Immense voids lie between the walls, while light takes hundreds of millions of years to cross from one side to the other. These structures challenge our sense of size. They exist on the edge of what we can comprehend, where individual galaxies become tiny dots inside something far greater.

ㅤ 🌌 Interesting fact: Could our universe be merely a single cell in a vast, cosmic organism? This mind-bending concept challenges our perception of reality, suggesting we are part of something unimaginably larger than we can comprehend. This intriguing idea posits that the structures and phenomena we observe within our universe might mirror biological processes on a grander scale, leading us to question the true nature of existence itself. The sheer scale and complexity of such a notion require a leap of imagination, pushing the boundaries of scientific and philosophical inquiry into the unknown. From the smallest subatomic particle to the largest galaxy cluster, every element may play a role in a cosmic symphony, leaving us with a profound sense of wonder and humility about our place in the grand design. #multiverse #cosmology #philosophy #space #wonder credit: tt/galaxydrops1
