SPIn 1923, when Edwin Hubble showed that the faint spiral in the sky known as Andromeda was an entire galaxy beyond our own, humanity’s sense of the universe expanded dramatically.
It meant the Milky Way was not the whole cosmos.
Our galaxy itself spans about one hundred thousand light-years and contains hundreds of billions of stars. Yet it is only one among hundreds of billions of galaxies scattered across the observable universe, each carrying its own vast population of suns, planets, and cosmic structures.
Distance stretches beyond ordinary comprehension.
Light, the fastest thing in nature, takes millions or even billions of years to travel between these islands of stars. The deeper we look into space, the larger the universe becomes, revealing layers of structure extending far beyond the limits of our everyday imagination.
A cosmos built on staggering scale.
