MA✨DIY FRIDAY✨
I’m a total sucker for the bargain aisle & when I spotted this 3-tier plastic planter in @aldiuk for just £7.99, I knew it was coming home with me!
I’ve always loved the timeless look of reclaimed stone planters but the price (& the fact they weigh a ton) always put me off. So, I decided to give this bargain planter a stone-effect makeover…& WOW, it looks like it’s straight from a country estate garden!
Here’s how I did it:
▪️Raise the planter on a sturdy pot, secure with glue & screws & check with a spirit level
▪️Sand the surface to roughen it up
▪️Mix building sand + all-purpose cement + PVA glue + a squirt of washing-up liquid (trust me it works & sticks to the plastic!)
▪️Brush on a layer of the mix, let dry, then repeat to build texture
▪️Rub garden soil into shadow areas for natural depth
▪️Brush on garden lime + water for stone tones
▪️Splatter white & brown paint to mimic lichens
▪️Rub fresh grass as a natural dye where water would naturally drip
▪️Seal with waterproof sealant
▪️Plant with alpines, sedums, or your favourites
