COLet the coaches coach. You, the strength coach, have far less to do with team success than you think. Or maybe you do have quite a hand. But I’d be willing to bet it is in ways far different than your precious CSCS and other credentials have “prepared” you for.
Let the coaches do the play calling, let them lead their team to victory. You, as the strength coach, have other important matters to attend to.
The 2023 Warwick Warriors are a bunch of ruthless War Birds who are the nastiest, strongest, fastest, and biggest bunch of bad asses I’ve ever had the privilege to coach. And that’s sayin’ something!
As their strength coach, I now must manage their volume and make sure they remain upright this season. I get to play team mom by tending to boo boos in the weight room, helping guys work through minor aches and pains.
As fun as all of that is, my biggest job is to keep my War Birds fed. This includes before the first snap, DURING halftime, and after the game.
If you want your dudes to remain dudes deep into the second half, give ‘em their pickles and sour patch kids.
