DGS Circular 09 of 2026 has been issued by the Directorate General of Shipping in response to the escalating security situation in Iran. Following advisories from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Embassy of India, Tehran, Indian seafarers are strongly advised to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary travel to Iran. All Indian seafarers currently in Iran, including those awaiting vessel joining, wages, or repatriation, are requested to strictly follow official advisories, register with the Embassy of India, and coordinate with their respective RPSL companies and shipping stakeholders for safe departure. Shipping companies, RPSL agencies, trade unions, and maritime stakeholders are directed to urgently submit details of Indian crew members operating in Iranian waters or nearby regions. Indian-flagged vessels and seafarers on foreign vessels transiting through the Strait of Hormuz must exercise utmost caution.
