Wenn ich diese Bilder sehe, sehe ich meine Tochter lachen. Ein Kind, das lebt. Ein Leben, das gerade erst begonnen hatte.
Und ich weiß heute etwas, das ich in diesem Moment noch nicht wusste. Dass uns nur noch sechs Monate von einem Wort trennen würden, das alles zerstört.
Krebs.
DIPG kommt nicht langsam. Es kündigt sich nicht an. Es kommt einfach.
Und plötzlich sitzt du in einem Raum und hörst einen Satz, der dein Leben in zwei Teile reißt.
Davor. Und danach.

LII often search “May 2017” in the photos folder on my phone so i can rewatch videos from the month she was born. I knew she would be the last baby I would give birth too, and so I was especially intentional about slowing down and being present with our newborn time together. Looking back, I’m so very grateful I didn’t rush her milestones or spend this time freaking out and nesting…the way I did when I was a first time new mama in 2009—just picture 27 year old anxious Ashley with a newborn strapped to her chest cleaning baseboards and reorganizing ever drawer in the house while hemorrhaging because I didn’t follow the doctors orders to rest 🤦♀️. I was so terrified about failing at motherhood that I channeled this anxious energy into cleaning, something I felt like I could actually control. It would take years before I learned that so much of the parenting magic happens when you surrender that control, and simply show up with love and faith and patience (I also learned I had PPD that I refused to feel shame about after my next two pregnancies) ❤️ Stevie Lynn Stock, one week old, just waking up from a long nap with a poopy diaper and ready to nurse. I’m filming while Ben unzips her swaddle 🥰 She was such a tiny cuddle bug and such an easygoing baby. I can look back on old videos and quite literally witness her making the most of her short time here with us. I think her soul always knew 🫶 ✨ 👼

It was my first time spending several days away from her and i still remember her squeals of joy (and relief, lol) when i walked through the front door. SHIn 2026, how can there be a pediatric cancer with no cure? How do we accept that? Each year hundreds of families are told their child will most likely die within a year and the only thing they are offered is palliative radiation. This is the treatment that has been offered for decades. We spend billions each year to fund research for cancers that have 90% cure rates, but for the one wit a 0% cure rate, money is raised by the parents of kids that have died of DIPG. make that make sense. It’s fundamentally wrong. As a pediatric oncology nurse, I knew DIPG. I’ve seen it destroy kids. I’ve hated it ever since I first encountered it and now it was threatening to do the same to my 4-year-old. So, we are choosing to fight. To advocate. Izzy is enrolled in a clinical trial trying to extend her life. It gives us hope, but to cure, it needs to be combined with other therapies. Right now there is an oncolytic virus being researched that has shown promise for DIPG patients in a clinical trial done in Spain. 2 kids out of 12 survived years beyond their expected prognosis. The same trial just started in the US and will already shut down in the coming months due to running out of funds. 1 million dollars is needed to keep it going. We want Izzy and kids like her to have future options and a combination of therapies that create a cure. This oncolytic virus combined with car t sounds promising. We want kids diagnosed in the coming years to be given hope and a treatment plan. If this trial closes, it will set back DIPG research. We can’t allow that. Please help. Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) is an extremely aggressive, inoperable, and fatal brain tumor that predominantly affects children aged 5-10, forming in the brainstem’s pons. It causes rapid neurological decline (loss of motor skills, vision, balance) and has a poor prognosis, with a median survival of only 8-12 months. While radiation can temporarily shrink the tumor, no cure exists.
Our lives have been forever changed by the most unbearable news. Creating those videos is torture as we witness our sweet baby suffering from cancer. We’re forced to find the strength to carry on, considering our two other children at home who depend on us - life doesn’t stop, and expenses continue to mount.
