Some say there is no such thing as a random number! After learning about integrated circuits (also known as chips), students in our electronics and robotics class build a prototype circuit of their choice on a breadboard and then solder the circuit onto a protoboard for a more permanent solution. The Altoid tin is optional, but adds a nice touch. One is not allowed to use a microcontroller in this assignment. The centerpiece of this circuit is the 4026 decade counter and decoder chip (the big one). When it receives a pulse, it increments from 0 to 1, and then upon receiving the next pulse it increments from 1 to 2, and so on. When it finally gets to 9, it increments back to zero and begins to repeat. Not only does it count internally, it sends the appropriate signals to make the seven-segment display light up. The pulses come from the smaller chip, which is a 555 timer. But here's the catch: they only reach the 4026 when the button is held down. And they come through hundreds of times a second! When you let go of the button, they stop. The numbers are changing so fast, you cannot predict what number, 0 through 9, the system will stop on. Instead, it lands on a random number. But is it really? One can get these #altoid tin shaped protoboards from #adafruit #diyelectronics #altoidscircuits #electronicsprojects #adafruit #555timer #stemeducation #makerspace

The video is a step-by-step instructional demonstration of assembling a USB-powered LED light. It begins with a close-up of a white USB cable, which is cut to expose the internal metal contacts. A blue resistor is carefully bent using tweezers and soldered to one of the contacts. Next, a small LED is shaped into a zigzag configuration with pliers and soldered to the opposite contact. The assembled components are then enclosed within a small clear plastic cap, secured with hot glue. A white plastic light bulb is prepared by drilling a hole in its base, into which the USB-cap assembly is inserted and further secured with hot glue. Finally, the completed USB light is plugged into a white USB wall charger, which is inserted into a wall socket. The video concludes with a scene of a dimly lit bedroom, where the assembled light is now illuminated, casting a soft glow. Throughout the process, the voiceover narrates in German, emphasizing the sun as the brightest star and referencing the production by ZDF in 2020, though this appears to be a thematic or branding overlay rather than a literal narrative element. The visual and audio elements together present a clear, concise guide to building a simple, functional USB-powered night light. #DIYElectronics #USBFlashlight #LEDCircuit #SolderingTechniques #UpcyclingTechnology

63% tin and 37% lead soldering wire performance check. #solderingwire #diyelectronics #solderinglead #solderingflux #satisfying This clip captures a small moment that quietly powers almost every piece of modern technology. What you’re watching is the process of soldering an insulated copper wire onto a printed circuit board, and every movement here serves a purpose. The wire is first stripped to expose bare copper, which is essential because electricity can’t flow properly through insulation. Flux paste is then applied to the joint. Flux acts as a chemical cleaner, breaking down oxidation that naturally forms on copper when it’s exposed to air. Without this step, the solder would struggle to bond. As the soldering iron heats the contact point, the temperature rises just enough for the solder to melt. At this stage, the solder doesn’t get forced into place — it flows on its own. Clean metal surfaces attract molten solder, allowing it to spread smoothly across the pad and into the tiny holes of the PCB. This behavior, known as wetting, is what creates a strong electrical and mechanical connection. The balance here is critical. Too little heat results in a weak, unreliable joint. Too much heat can damage the board or compromise nearby components. When done correctly, the solder cools into a solid, shiny finish that locks the wire securely in place and ensures efficient current flow. What makes this clip so satisfying is how it turns a highly technical process into something visually simple. This single joint represents the same principles used in factories producing phones, computers, and countless everyday devices. It’s a reminder that modern electronics are built not by magic, but by precise chemistry, controlled heat, and careful hands — one connection at a time. soldering electronics pcb engineering manufacturing

Electrical Excellence: Mastering the Art of Wire Termination! ⚡️🛠️ Observe the meticulous skill and satisfying precision of manual Wire Crimping and insulation in action! This is where raw electrical components are joined to create a secure, high-conductivity connection, essential for everything from home appliances to complex industrial control panels. The Art of Electrical Connectivity This process is a fundamental example of reliable circuit building, where multiple strands of copper are unified into a single, durable terminal: The Setup: A multi-strand copper cable is prepared to be joined with a heavy-duty copper terminal lug. A secure connection here is vital to prevent electrical resistance and potential overheating. The Tool: The video showcases the use of specialized crimping pliers. Unlike standard pliers, these are designed to apply high, even pressure to deform the terminal's metal sleeve around the wire strands. Precision Termination (0:00 - 0:17): The technician carefully threads the copper strands through the terminal, ensures proper alignment, and executes a firm crimp. The subsequent application of heat-shrink tubing is crucial for: Insulation: Providing a tight, protective barrier that prevents short circuits and protects against environmental moisture. Strain Relief: Adding mechanical strength to the joint, ensuring the connection remains intact even under vibration or tension. The Final Connection: The result is a professional-grade termination that is both electrically efficient and physically robust, ready for integration into a high-performance electrical system. This attention to detail in even the smallest connections is what ensures the safety and longevity of the power systems we depend on every day! What’s the most satisfying electrical project you’ve ever completed?
