ANWhile hosting my Nightscape photography, we attend many interesting locations. Old farm barns like this one, old houses, bridges, churches, even graveyards. While the locations change, the one thing that won't is my being there to help you. My camera in this shot is unattended allowing me to help show how to get the best results from light painting. I'm there for my attendees, not my camera.

STAfter considerable deliberation, in order to get away from the unrelenting cloudy skies of Seattle, I have finally transitioned to a fully remote setup. This effort took months worth of planning and coordination to narrow down the configuration and components of the system. I settled on hosting at Sierra Remote Observatories (SRO), which is located in the Sierra Nevada mountains about an hour from Fresno, CA.
As for the system itself, I chose a PlaneWave CDK14 telescope with a PlaneWave L-350 mount, for the quality of their instruments. I also worked with Rouzbeh Bidshahri of @rouz_astro, up in Vancouver, on a specialized kit to add the PlaneWave reducer to the telescope that improves the field of view and speed. Once all the parts had arrived at SRO, I flew down there to assemble things. It took 2 full days, and parts of the freezing nights, of physically intensive work to setup and wire this monstrous rig that stands over 8 feet tall and weighs several hundred pounds. And just over 2 weeks to get everything fine-tuned and to a place where I could image successfully.
For “first light” from the telescope, I chose to re-capture the Jellyfish Nebula both as a baseline comparison to what I was getting with the Dreamscope to ensure the new system was behaving well, and because I previously didn't have access to SII and OIII filters on the Dreamscope. The data is approximately 9 hours, spread over 3 nights due to, ironically, inclement weather, with OIII having the most amount of captures as that signal is the weakest in this nebula.
