12 Month update
365 days. 52 grueling weeks.
I don’t even know where to start but by saying, I’m eternally proud of the community we have all seen shine through during this most difficult year.
We’ve all collectively witnessed and lived through the greatest tragedy this city has every seen in our life time… and some of you got up, dusted yourselves off, looked around, and got to work helping others - friends, neighbors, strangers, the hungry, the homeless, and those starving for community. It ticked a sense of pride that my family picked the right place to call home even though we aren’t back.
That pride and joy is now always cast with sadness for what transpired during the Eaton Fire and subsequent 2nd natural disaster - the recovery and rebuilding of Altadena.
I know with time that sadness will dwindle (hopefully) and memories of resilience, community, triumph, success, and change will seep through as core memories.
These videos might show that Altadena is on the up and up, but we’re far from it.
For every house you see being built, there’s at least 5 empty lots surrounding that house that haven’t even started groundwork.
Working with the city and county over the years, I can say that having a house nearly rebuilt and complete within a year of it being destroyed is still an amazing feat!
I know that last comment doesn’t help the purgatory some folks may find themselves in with plancheck but be persistent and don’t stop biting those ankles.
Thank you for following along with my family and I during this time.
I’ll probably start posting more of our daily life here in Altadena as we also start the complete remediation process from start to finish of our home.
