Comment 👇SUPPORT👇 to learn how to help your baby crawl If you’ve been told crawling isn’t a milestone… please hear this. The CDC removed crawling from their checklist several years ago. And now many parents are told it doesn’t matter if their baby is struggle through this milestone. Crawling builds shoulder strength, core stability, coordination, and communication between both sides of the brain. It lays groundwork for so many skills that come next. When a baby is not crawling, that is not random. It is not a personality trait. And it is not something to ignore. Not crawling is not typical. It is usually a sign that a specific piece of strength or coordination needs support. And with the right guidance, that can be fixed. If you’ve been told to “wait it out” but your gut says otherwise, you are not overreacting. Comment 👇SUPPORT👇 to learn how to help your baby crawl

Crawling is still a milestone. And in my professional opinion as a pediatric physical therapist…it’s an important one. Even though it was removed from the CDC milestone checklist a few years ago, crawling still plays a powerful role in both motor and brain development. Before I say anything else though…if your child didn’t crawl, please don’t panic. Development is not one-size-fits-all and there are always outliers. Plenty of adults in the world functioning just fine didn’t crawl as infants. But that doesn’t change the fact that crawling provides some really valuable developmental opportunities when it does happen. Research and clinical experience suggest that babies who crawl may demonstrate things like: • improved coordination because both sides of the brain are communicating • stronger hands and better grip strength development • improved problem solving and spatial awareness • stronger hips, core, and shoulders • improved spinal stability as mature spinal curves develop • growth in depth perception, memory, and cognitive skills • rich sensory experiences as babies move across different textures and surfaces And here’s something many parents don’t realize: Even if your child skipped crawling earlier, you can still go back and practice crawling through play. Play tunnels. Fort building. Animal walks. Crawling up slides or stairs. Even if it’s not their primary way of moving, these activities can still offer many of the same developmental benefits. If you want a deeper breakdown of why crawling matters, how to set up your environment, and simple ways to encourage crawling through play, I teach it step-by-step inside my Crawling Masterclass. And because this week marks 6 years of Milestones & Motherhood, I’m celebrating with a small anniversary promotion: ✨ All milestone classes and bundles are 10% off ✨ PLUS when you enroll you’ll receive the digital Milestone Playbook FREE Comment CRAWLING and I’ll send you the details. You’re right. You can’t force a baby to crawl. But you can shape the environment that invites it. When babies are consistently placed right next to furniture, pulling to stand becomes the easiest option. It is exciting, upright, and rewarding. When babies have space on the floor and something worth working toward, crawling often shows up naturally first. Crawling builds strength, coordination, and confidence that supports later skills like standing and walking. It is not about forcing milestones. It is about giving babies the opportunity to practice the foundations. Skipping crawling does not mean failure. Supporting it is simply good developmental practice. #childdevelopment #pediatricpt #pediatricphysicaltherapy #babymilestones #babydevelopment

Pediatric PT PSA: Crawling absolutely is a milestone. It helps build: • shoulder strength • core stability • coordination • the foundation for walking And if your baby skipped crawling, it doesn’t mean all hope is lost. Those foundational skills can still be worked on. But if someone told you crawling “doesn’t matter”… this is your sign to ignore that advice. #pediatricpt #childdevelopment #babymilestones #babycrawling

Crawling usually shows up between 6–10 months! Some babies try to skip straight to pulling to stand or walking but crawling matters and we want to encourage it 👀 Why crawling is so important ⬇️ • builds core strength • supports better posture • improves hand eye coordination • develops depth perception • strengthens hand arches • supports bilateral coordination • and so much more Babies who skip crawling often have muscle imbalances, sensory aversions, or motor planning challenges. This doesn’t mean anything is wrong but if these skills aren’t supported, we may see challenges later with handwriting, coordination, balance, or emotional regulation. Comment below if your baby is crawling yet or if you’re going to start encouraging it 👇 Save this for later and follow along for more baby development tips! #babymilestones #crawlingbaby #motordevelopment #pediatricot #babytips
