On September 20, for #InternationalCoastalCleanup, some 100 CBG volunteers came together at Sirgany Beach in East Kingston. With the morning sun rising, buses pulled in carrying our #DoGoodCrew, united by a shared purpose to protect Jamaica’s natural beauty. Despite being a frequent cleanup site, Sirgany Beach continues to face heavy pollution, fed by the ongoing waste that flows into Kingston Harbour. This is a stark reminder that while cleanups address immediate pollution, the real solution lies in systemic change - better waste management, stronger infrastructure, and behavioural change. Still, every bag collected matters. Every kilo of waste removed is a victory for our oceans, our communities, and our future generations. And while we celebrate the impact of this day, we must also continue to advocate for the deeper changes needed to restore and protect our coastline for good.
