❄️ Extreme cold is a stress test for your body. Physician’s perspective ⬇️ 👉🏼 Cold temperatures cause your blood vessels to tighten, which raises blood pressure and increases the workload on your heart. That’s why people with heart disease are at higher risk for heart attacks during extreme cold. 👉🏼 If you have asthma or COPD, breathing cold, dry air can irritate your airways and trigger bronchospasm — making it feel suddenly harder to breathe. 👉🏼 Your body also burns more energy just trying to stay warm, so your metabolic demand goes up. ⚠️ One of the biggest winter risks I see every year: Older adults or anyone with heart disease shoveling snow in freezing temperatures. The combination of cold + exertion + sudden strain can be dangerous. If you can avoid shoveling, do it. If you must be outside: 👉🏼 Keep exertion minimal 👉🏼 Don’t go from warm indoors straight into heavy activity 👉🏼 Give your body time to adjust 😷 While not the most comfortable, a mask or scarf actually helps. It warms and humidifies the air you breathe, which protects your lungs, especially if you have asthma or COPD. 🚨 Every winter, hospitals also see carbon monoxide poisoning. Make sure CO detectors are working on every floor of your home. 🐾 And yes — your pets feel the cold too. Limit outdoor time and protect their paws. 🤍 Finally: check on your neighbors. Especially older adults or anyone living alone. Cold weather can be isolating — and dangerous. Anything I missed? Does Nosepicking Cause Alzheimer’s? Doctor Explains Sources- PMID 38002250 sweat.w.sam on TT Recent scientific inquiries have explored the surprising hypothesis that chronic nose-picking (rhinotillexomania) may be a potential risk factor for developing Alzheimer’s disease. The theory centers on the integrity of the nasal cavity and the olfactory system, which provides a direct pathway to the brain. When the delicate mucosal lining of the nose is damaged through picking, it can create micro-tears that allow pathogens, such as bacteria and viruses, easier access to the olfactory nerves. Once these pathogens bypass the blood-brain barrier via the olfactory bulb, they may trigger a persistent, low-grade inflammatory response within the brain’s tissues. This localized neuroinflammation is a key area of interest because it is thought to stimulate the production of amyloid-beta, a protein that forms the plaques characteristic of Alzheimer’s. In this context, amyloid-beta may actually be part of the brain’s immune defense mechanism, produced to “trap” invading pathogens. While some animal studies have shown that certain bacteria can travel from the nose to the brain and lead to plaque formation, it is critical to note that this research is still in the early stages of investigation. Human clinical trials have not yet definitively proven that nose-picking causes dementia, and researchers are currently working to determine if this correlation translates into a significant causal link in humans. #nose #health #brain

A man had a ₹10 lakh health insurance policy. Yet when the hospital bill came, he was told: “You have to pay ₹2.5 lakh yourself.” Reasons given: • Consumables not covered • Certain lab tests not approved • Non-medical items excluded Most people would panic and pay. But he did something different. He opened his insurance policy, called the TPA helpline, and asked the hospital to justify each charge. After review, the bill dropped from ₹2.5 lakh to ₹18,000. Same hospital. Same treatment. Same insurance. The difference? He understood how health insurance works. Most people lose money in hospitals not because insurance fails… …but because they never read their own policy. 💡 Save this post. One day it might save you lakhs.
