AVThis is real onboard footage of the engine fire and cowling loss suffered by the right Pratt & Whitney PW4077 engine shortly after takeoff from Denver International Airport. The fan-blade separation caused the nacelle to break apart, igniting a fire and scattering debris over Broomfield, Colorado. 
Miraculously, the pilots managed to return the aircraft to Denver safely all 241 people on board survived, and nobody on the ground was seriously injured.

COEngine Failure Procedure: DA42 Edition ⬇️
👨🏻💻 This video describes the steps taken to handle an engine failure. The acronym we use in the DA42 is "CPDIVE." Control, Power, Drag (Gear and Flaps), Identify, Verify, Evaluate/Execute.
👷🏻♂️ To accomplish this, we maintain positive control of the airplane, increase power on the remaining engine, reduce the drag (gear and flaps up), identify the dead engine, verify that the suspected troublesome engine is dead, evaluating the altitude and scenario, and securing the failed engine.
📍Mu execution in this video was slow and sloppy. It was my first time doing a simulated engine failure in this airplane, AND it was difficult for me to use CPDIVE after learning THE DRILL in a normal twin-engine airplane (without the fancy FADEC of the DA42). Your first time isn't supposed to be perfect, and that's why we practice! On my MEI checkride, I was able to do everything in this video in 3-5 seconds while being precise and correct.
✅ I would recommend pilots to sit in the cockpit of new airplanes they're inexperienced in and running through checklists/flows to familiarize themselves- This is a recommendation for multi and single engine pilots alike. When the airplane isn't available in real life, I love to practice my flows in my desktop flight sim!

AEThis KLM Boeing 777-300ER suffered multiple engine compressor stalls after a bird strike shortly after takeoff.
You can clearly see fire flashes coming from the engine as it tries to stabilize mid-air.

LESelhání motoru zní děsivě, že? Ale všímejte si, s jakým klidem pilot hlásí pokyny pro posádku. Piloti jsou vyškoleni, aby tuto situaci zvládli bez zaváhání. Když jeden motor přestane fungovat, letadlo jen tak nespadne z nebe. A i když je pravděpodobnost selhání motoru extrémně nízká, existuje přesný postup, který je pilotům neustále zarýván pod kůži během nespočtu hodin tréninku. Navíc samotné letadlo je navrženo tak, aby pokračovalo v letu, což dává pilotovi vše, co potřebuje pro bezpečné přistání. Piloti se tedy nezačnou modlit a “nedoufají v nejlepší” – je to pro ně naopak rutinní záležitost s přesně naučenými procesy. Bezpečný výsledek není otázkou štěstí, je výsledkem přípravy a odbornosti.
Pod 400 stop se piloti soustředí pouze na létání a udržení stability. Jakmile letadlo překročí 400 stop, posádka začne s odstraňováním problému, zajistí vadný motor a pokračuje ve stoupání.
Jakmile letadlo dosáhne bezpečné výšky, piloti provedou další kontroly a v klidu plánují další kroky, přičemž vždy upřednostňují bezpečnost. V tomto okamžiku je situace plně pod kontrolou a let pokračuje směrem k bezpečnému přistání.
A krátká statistika na závěr. Pravděpodobnost výpadku motoru je jednou za 375 000 hodin letu (to je asi 43 let). Spoustu pilotů tedy za celou svou kariéru nemusí selhání motoru vůbec reálně řešit.
