SAA landmark meeting between FIAS President Vasily Shestakov and UFC champion Islam Makhachev took place on February 18 at the International SAMBO Center in Luzhniki.
The highlight of the meeting at the SAMBO House was the conferral of the honorary title “SAMBO Ambassador to the world” upon Islam Makhachev.
"I've already been an unofficial SAMBO ambassador for a long time. Me, Fedor Emelianenko, and Khabib [Nurmagomedov] – we represent this sport, and a lot of people started training because of us. There are now so many national SAMBO federations around the world. We work hard to show people what this martial art is all about. A huge part of my MMA game comes straight from SAMBO. Honestly, I'd say the best MMA fighters in the world are SAMBO practitioners. It's all there – the same strikes, and in some ways SAMBO is even tougher," - Islam said.
