When I was in training, my FTO was incredibly strict about our fuel levels. I thought he was just being difficult. I thought I knew better.
Two weeks into my solo patrol? I found myself walking down the shoulder of the highway, empty gas can in hand, praying nobody I knew drove by.
It turns out, those “annoying” habits your mentors try to instill in you are usually there to save you from yourself.
To all the FTOs out there: Thanks for your patience.
To all the Rookies: Trust the process. (And fill up the car).
