The Link Between Uterine Fibroids and Heart Disease  This is really important information to know . Wanted to share this with you to keep you all updated on the latest in fibroid research and so that you can be informed as you continue to navigate this journey  🙏🏽💗 Thank you for this important information @drjashton 🙏🏽 Link in bio for full article 🙏🏽 🌟 @reshare_app • @drjashton Brand new study, just off embargo, and reported in the Journal of the American Heart Association explores the link between fibroids and heart disease (ASCVD= atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease).  Julia DiTosto et al looked at something that affects up to 80% of women, uterine fibroids, and followed over 2.7 million women with and without fibroids to see how many developed cardiovascular disease over a 10 year period of time.  They found an elevated risk of heart disease amongst women with fibroids, that was between 1.8-2.4 times that of the control group. This elevated risk was consistently seen across different racial, ethnic and age subgroups, “suggesting a robust association.”  What is NOT known at this time: the exact causative mechanism, although the two disease states share common features and a plausbile explanation is theorized to include inflammation, reactive oxidative species, endothelial dysfunction, and fibrosis/calcification. We don’t know if size, number or location of the fibroids affects risk.  But we DO know that 80% of heart disease is preventable with behavioral modifications. Knowledge/awareness = power so if you have fibroids, show your doctor this new study. You can’t change having fiboirds, but you CAN take steps to lower your risk of future heart disease. This involves: optimizing your diet, activity level, sleep, stress, blood sugar, cholesterol, blood pressure, quitting tobacco and treating the conditions of overweight or obesity.  #fibroids #heartdisease #goredforwomen #obgyn  Study: DiTosto, J.D., et al. 🔬 Did you know that the majority of women will develop fibroids by age 50, with Black women facing even higher risks? 80% of Black women will develop fibroids by age 50, with 25% developing them by age 25! And yet, fibroid research remains underfunded. 🤔 It's crucial that we invest in understanding what causes these growths, especially since Black women are 2-3 times more likely to undergo surgery. 💜 We need more research to prevent these disparities and improve health outcomes. Let's make women's health a priority, ensuring everyone gets the care they deserve. 🌟 #FibroidAwareness #HealthEquity #InvestInResearch

For years, I’ve struggled with fibroids, and just recently, I had them removed. It took almost two years of waiting for appointments, going back and forth with doctors—because according to the healthcare system, this issue is not considered urgent. The recovery has been painful—both physically and mentally. From dealing with pain, slow healing, and the fear of recurrence, it’s been a tough journey. I know I’m not alone… So many women are going through this, yet it’s not talked about enough, and there’s still not enough research. If you’re experiencing this, just know you’re not alone. We deserve answers, options, and healing. ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹 #fibroidsawareness #fibroid #healingjourney #canadianhealthcare #fibroidresearch #ontariohealth #fobroidstreatment

Few recent discoveries in Fibroid Research: Vitamin D’s impact since 2009, slowing fibroid growth. 2016 & 2020 studies confirm: Regular Vitamin D stops fibroid growth, placebo doesn’t. In 2009, Blauer and colleagues conducted the study examining the impact of vitamin D on the growth of uterine fibroids. This research revealed that treating uterine fibroid cells, sourced from women post-hysterectomy, with vitamin 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 slowed their growth. Higher levels of vitamin D correlated with more significant inhibition of fibroid growth. Similarly, Sharan and team’s research demonstrated that 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 suppresses the growth of immortal uterine fibroid cells. Ciavattini and associates’ 2016 investigation involved 108 women with “small burden” uterine fibroids, each having fewer than four fibroids, none exceeding 5 cm. They discovered that those not consuming vitamin D supplements showed an average increase in fibroid volume of 40% over a year. In contrast, consistent vitamin D supplementation halted fibroid growth in this period. The 2020 study by Arjeh et al. also aligned with these findings. Women deficient in vitamin D, with fewer than four uterine fibroids (the largest under 10 cm), and receiving weekly high-dose vitamin D orally experienced restricted fibroid growth after 12 weeks. Conversely, those taking a placebo observed an increase in uterine fibroid volume. #HealthScience #UterineFibroids #VitaminDResearch #thegreenchick

Never new to this, but definitely true to this healing journey. Today is made possible through the White Dress Project, and the very first day of Fibroid Awareness Month. 💃🏽 July holds a special place in my heart, especially this year since I am three months post-op from getting six fibroids removed. Managing multiple chronic conditions is never easy, but having a community who understand makes it better. Your support is important more than ever as we lobby for support of the Fibroid Research and Education Act. Follow @wecanwearwhite for more information on their events throughout the month! Keep sharing your story. You could be the very person to set someone free. ❤️❤️❤️

Fibroids suck. For me they caused high-risk pregnancies and complications during my 2nd delivery. July is Fibroid Awareness Month — and I’m committed to raising awareness so more women know their options. I 10/10 recommend checking out @wecanwearwhite to support research and advocacy — because up to 80% of women will get fibroids by 50.

✨ Trusting the Process ✨ Going into my transcervical radio frequency ablation surgery in December, I leaned into faith, hope, and trust—believing I was on the right path. My family taught me to pray not just for what we hope, but for something to happen beyond our expectations and biggest imagination. And once again, it did. Less than a month later, my doctor, the incredible @drshirazian, head of the NYU Fibroid Center and torch blazer of progress in women’s health, shared news I never expected—my fibroid had already shrunk dramatically. A process that typically takes six months happened in a fraction of the time. Healing isn’t linear. It’s an ebb and flow of effort and surrender, strength and patience. Some days I felt almost myself and explored my capacity; other days, I felt exhausted and had to remind myself of the power in slowing down and deeply listening. This journey has been a profound lesson in Tapas—the fire of transformation and Santosha—radical self-acceptance. It’s taught me to let go of past versions of myself and discover new strengths I never realized were waiting to emerge. And it turns out, I really needed these lessons, because last week, I aggravated an old back injury, and now I’m once again on a new path of healing. Thank goodness I can still move my body in amazing ways! I’m just navigating a path toward full recovery and adjusting my routines in the meantime. As I celebrate my body and all that it can do, I hold onto the wisdom of the Wolof proverb: “Little by little, the lion catches the monkey.” Healing, growth, and transformation take time. Trust in the process. Keep showing up. 📅 Join me for a transformational journey: 🕉️ Feb 8 – Yoga + Manifest Goals + Meditation & Potluck Fundraiser for Women’s Health & Fibroid Research (only a few spots left!!!) 🌿 July 5-11 – Portugal Yoga Retreat (studios SOLD OUT, 1-bedroom spots left!) We need to be pushing the envelope when it comes to fibroid research. We still don’t have the answers we need—on why fibroids form, how best to treat them, or why so many women are left with limited options. We need research. We need transparency. We need to understand how physicians are treating fibroids.
