SELife and Finance Update below ๐
Iโll never forget the day Arvy came to me two years ago and told me how he wanted to change his career. I was scared, nervous, and knew exactly what kind of sacrifice this was going to mean. We went through this our very first year of marriage when he was in school for nursing. Late overnight clinicals, hours studying instead of spending time together, and struggling to survive on just $3,000 a month.
โAre you sure? Like 100% sure?โ I said.
โI am,โ he told me with so much passion.
Well the conversations that followed over the next several days were hard ones. We learned that becoming a pilot out of pocket is one of the most expensive things you could do. Not to mention, we had just started our debt free journey and paid off all of our medical debt ($15,000). We had also started house hunting and were ready to sign on our first house to which our down payment was looming over my head. We also didnโt have 6 months of emergency savings which made me feel unsettled because that was the next thing on the list for us.
Arvy never ceases to amaze me with his hard work and ability to provide for us. I laid out the reality of our circumstances and told him we had to make some hard choices as to what we want right now. We decided to wait.. and that wait was longer then we wanted. But Arvy, like the noble man he is, decided the best thing for our family at the time.
I told him that when the time came, and he could start flight school, it was going to feel so much sweeter. And here we are, we accomplished our goals. And with a $60,000 three year journey ahead of us, with tons of overtime, we can make this happen together. I praise God for that who is ultimately in control of it all.
Now itโs time for him to chase his dreams! I made a personal vow to myself to not complain or stress about this process that he has waited so long for. Does that mean almost all of his off days he will be at school? Yes. But itโs his time and I am so excited for him!
