Here’s exactly what I’d do… 1. I would stop doing random workouts and start following a structured program that combines high intensity, interval training, as well as progressive strength training. having a workout calendar to follow has made all the difference for me over the past seven years. I never have to guess what work out to do each day and as a result have been incredibly consistent! 2. I’d stop waiting for the perfect time to start. There’s never gonna be a perfect 4, 6 or eight weeks stretch that is free from work travel vacation or special events. The best time to start anything is right now. 3. Instead of weight loss I would focus on building muscle through a progressive strength training program. I recommend doing strength workouts 2 to 3 times a week. It doesn’t have to be longer than 20 or 30 minutes! I will also do a total body HIIT workout and one day of intervals either running or riding an indoor bike. Again, both 30 minutes. 4. I would plan my meals. This can be done in the form of meal prepping at home or ordering meals delivered to my house with macros already calculated. I recommend each meal follow a specific macro structure - 30 to 40 g of protein, 30 to 60 g of carbohydrates, 10 to 25 g of fat. The last thing you wanna be doing, is winging it. Prioritize, protein, and fiber if tracking macros is not something you want to do. 5. I’d keep things as simple as possible. 30 minute workouts are all you need. If meal prep is overwhelming get meals delivered that help you hit your macros like factor. 6. Increase your NEAT as much as you can. NEAT essentially refers to the movement you do throughout the day, excluding eating, sleeping and exercising. Go for a walk, park farther away, use a walking pad, etc. If you are ready to commit + see real change, join me for my six week body composition program starting on Monday. It is very important you unlearn these beliefs if you want to see change that lasts. Here are the most common obstacles I see for women not being content with their bodies: 1. They genuinely still believe that more sweat, more cardio will help them lose weight while trying to follow a calorie restricted diet that is so restrictive their body due to stress holds onto excess body fat. This client needs more food, less cardio. Not no cardio but strategic. 2. A client knows what to do, they just struggle to implement it! These clients don’t lack motivation, they lack a plan and accountability to follow that plan. This is where a coach (like me is helpful). 3. Clients are overwhelmed and don’t know who to believe thanks to social media and hear conflicting advice. “Do Pilates for long lean legs!” I’m not a Pilates hater, but I’m also not of the mindset that it’s enough to build lean muscle. I love Pilates and do it usually once a week on top of three days of strength training. Client is also here they should be tracking macros, but don’t actually know what their own macro target should be. How much protein is enough these days??? And how does one actually hit that target? Frequently I give clients custom macros and they will say this is too much or this doesn’t feel like enough. It’s really hard to know and trust what’s right for you! I’m a 41 yo certified personal trainer (and former bootcamp instructor) who has tried every fitness program out there - I ran marathons, did barre exclusively for a year, just did yoga, personal trained, group ex studio hopped, and I’ve found that the best exercise if the one you’ll do, but the least food noise and leanest I get is with more food, less cardio and strategic strength training.
