Watch as I transform this backyard, one into an ecological and edible landscapes. You’ll see that we are not dogmatic about not having any lawn, but rather only having a reasonable intentional amount of wine. In this case, the long left provides just enough space for the dog and the kids to play, Will also serving as a multifunctional area that can be converted into a fire pit, way less ecologically disruptive than doing a hardscape patio to be honest! And the whole area is gonna feel so cozy nestled in and hugged by this native and edible garden! The design for this was another collaboration with our amazing plant expert @krisekearney #ediblelandscaping #rhodeislandgarden #rhodeislandlife #rhodeisland #foodscaping #gardeninspiration #gardensofinstagram #foodscape #ediblelandscape #gardeneducation #regenerativefoodscapes #regenerativelandscapes #regenerativegardening #nativegarden #nativeplants #plantnative #bringnaturehome #bringingnaturehome #breatheyourbiome

Another small but impactful garden makeover from last season included four terraced raised beds and a perennial border garden with herbs, flowers and berry bushes. Natural, robust edges make for low maintenance as these landscapes mature. #ediblelandscaping #foodscaping #foodscape #foodscapes #gardendesign #ediblelandscapes #raisedbeds #raisedgardenbeds

I want to inspire you to plant edibles along pathways! I'm in love with these 9x2 metal raised boxes to create a border to the garden as visitors walk to our background. The goal was to bring food and flowers along the pathway for friends and family to nibble from or enjoy the aromas of fresh herbs. I envisioned kids picking a red strawberry they spotted as they walked in or friends enjoying the scent rosemary. These beds were planted three months ago and next year they will be SO full! Perennials I planted: 🌱Rosemary (as the show stopper, three in each bed- they can be shaped like a boxwood) 🌱Thyme 🌱Sage and oregano on each side 🌱A row of ever bearing strawberries along the front Annuals to fill in the spaces as the perennials fill out: 🌱Lettuce by seed to fill gaps as strawberries grew 🌱Snapdragons (get two harvests out of them and bring instant colour) 🌱Compact zinnias 🌱Sweet Allyum for a natural pest control I love my @garden_in_minutes beds and irrigation grids! I don't even touch these beds as the water is on a timer! It's so low maintenance and no weeds when you pack it in! Comment "grid" to get the link to the beds + irrigation system as there's huge sales right now! #gridsystem #garden101 #gardenborders #gardentips #gardenhacks #growherbs #foodscaping #ediblelandscapes #ediblegarden

Edible flowers, tubers and seed pods (cooked), this native vine is an awesome addition to your garden. Apios americana, also called American groundnut, is a perennial vine native to eastern North America. Its fragrant reddish brown flowers bloom in clusters from midsummer to early fall. Underground, it forms strings of edible tubers that are starchy, nutty, and high in protein, with over three times the protein of a potato. Native American tribes grew and traded it as a staple crop, and it helped sustain the Pilgrims during their first winters. It grows in moist soil, partial shade to sun, and returns each year if some tubers are left in the ground. It also fixes nitrogen, making it a sustainable food source. Be careful if you have a peanut allergy-I’ve read some people are sensitive to it. #edibleflowers #shadegarden #veggiegarden #foodscape #foodscaping #nativeflowers #foodgarden @beachplumfarm

Pomegranate given enough sun and drainage can be a fabulous edible garden option here in NC. Of course it would prefer lower humidity and a more Mediterranean climate but can still yield decent fruit and be a beautiful large specimen. #pomegranates #punicagranatum #foodscaping #ediblelandscaping #gardenplants #ncgardening #raleighgardening

🍓 STRAWBERRIES FOREVER 🍓 On our #ohiohomestead, we're inching ever-closer to producing a self-sustaining number of strawberries on-site. Last year, we produced around 155 pounds, which was enough to supply our morning smoothies with berries for 9 months. If you want ENDLESS strawberries too, I have 2 tips for you: 1. Plant them in-ground instead of in pots or planters. They're perennial in USDA grow zones 4-8 (more or less, depending on variety) and so they'll come back year-after-year, if allowed to properly establish themselves. To turn 1 plant into multiple, simply bury the "runner" or strawberry "arm" 🙃 with soil or mulch as it emerges, as each burial point will form roots and another strawberry plant will eventually emerge! Continue to do this each time you see a "runner" and you'll find yourself "in strawberries" for life! 2. Don't plant them alone! Plant your strawberries amongst a community of plants. Like people, communities of plants are far more resilient than a when planted as a #monoculture. I have mine acting as a food-producing groundcover under and around the fruit trees + berry bushes in my #frontyardfoodforest. They reduce excess watering and "weeding" by merely existing and they produce the very fruit we purchase like mad at the grocery store for our morning smoothies. 🌈 Would you like to grow more of your own food, but feel overwhelmed? Dear Seed to Sanctuary, You’re more than garden beds and plant lists. You’re the moment someone realizes “I can grow this.” You turn overwhelm into confidence, empty spaces into abundance, and beginners into gardeners. You plant more than food — you plant joy, pride, connection, and calm. Season after season, you show people that growth isn’t just happening in the soil… it’s happening in them. Love, Everyone whose life you’ve helped grow 🌱 #SeedToSanctuary #GrowYourOwn #Foodscaping #GardenCoach #GrowConfidence
