This shark would’ve been around 60 feet long and swam over what is now South Carolina during much higher sea levels. This is not a common sized shark tooth to find! I found this little slab on the beach a few weeks ago. I could see something was inside but it wasn’t until I started prepping it that the hidden ammonites within started to appear. These ancient ammonites have been hiding inside for millions of years. The stone around them has kept them safe from the insane forces of nature that have shaped our planet over the past 200 million (ish) years. It’s hard to imagine the timescale. However I did have a crazy thought the other day…Energy cannot be created or destroyed only transferred. So the energy that made up these creatures is still here somewhere. These massive objects come from the extinct Megalodon shark, which lived in ancient oceans millions of years ago and could grow over 60 feet long. In certain areas that were once underwater, fossil rich sediment forms on the ocean floor, and divers often sift through it to uncover preserved teeth. Because Megalodon teeth are rare and can reach over 7 inches long, well preserved specimens can sell for tens of thousands of dollars depending on size, condition, and serration quality. #megalodon #fossils #ocean #shark
