GRToday, we’re talking Seidr Magick.
And specifically, we’re going to tackle this whole notion of it being “unmanly”
But first, what the heck is this?
Seidr is a powerful practice first mastered by the goddess Freyja. It is a magickal practice that allows those wielding it to effectively see the weave of Wyrd, its patterns and nuances and to a degree influence it more powerfully than they might otherwise.
We’re talking sending and receiving luck. Calling things in, sending things out. Spirit journeys and more.
This is magick that operates at the level of wyrd itself. Not by force. Not by command. But by perception and influence. Seeing the weave and reading the pattern. A heightened sense of soul level awareness.
It’s like night vision goggles in a mostly dark room.
So…why was it was called ergi or unmanly?
Because Seidr requires receptivity. You don’t force your will onto reality. You open yourself to what’s moving through the web of wyrd, perceive it, and work with it.
You yield to something larger in order to influence it. That’s a completely different relationship with power than the sword-and-shield model.
And here’s the lesson winding…
Odin practiced it anyway.
He took the social cost. He owns it. Because what he gained from Freyja’s teaching was worth more than what the warrior culture thought of him for learning it.
He will face a wolf he knew would swallow him whole one day and he understands that brute force alone won’t be able to navigate it.
That’s enormous.
The most powerful god in the pantheon accepted being called unmanly rather than abandon the deeper magick and its understanding of wyrd. Because it taught him how to face the overwhelming momentum of wyrd moving at him.
And that’s the lesson for us too.
Sometimes strength isn’t being immovable but rather being able to bend with the wind and flow with the weave for the opportunity to weave something else in along the way.
That’s what it means to be heathen. And to practice seidr.
