Out of butter… but you do have heavy cream and a mixer?! In ten minutes you’ll be out here churning like it’s 1892 and feeling highly accomplished. Homemade butter just hits different. Find the whole process by @thebuttababe below: Ingredients: • 2 cups cold heavy cream (not ultra-pasteurized) • 1–2 teaspoons salt, optional Instructions: 1. Pour the cold heavy cream into the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the whisk attachment. (If using a mason jar, simply add the cream and secure the lid tightly.) 2. If using a stand mixer, loosely wrap the top of the bowl with plastic wrap to minimize splashing. 3. Beat on high speed for about 8–10 minutes. The cream will transform in stages: Liquid cream; Fluffy whipped cream; Thickened, slightly grainy texture; and finally, separated butter and buttermilk. 4. You’ll know it’s ready when large clumps of butter cling to the whisk and a cloudy liquid (buttermilk) pools at the bottom. 5. Place a fine mesh strainer over a bowl and pour in the mixture. Reserve the buttermilk for baking, pancakes, or dressings. 6. Using a spatula or muslin/cheesecloth, gently press the butter to remove as much buttermilk as possible. 7. Transfer the butter to a bowl of ice water. Squeeze and fold the butter to release remaining buttermilk. Replace the water as needed and repeat until the water runs clear. This step helps your butter stay fresh longer. 8. If desired, sprinkle in 1–2 teaspoons of salt and gently fold to combine. 9. Shape the butter and wrap in parchment, wax paper, or beeswax wrap. Refrigerate for longer storage. Salted butter can sit at room temperature for 1–2 days if kept in a covered butter dish. Tips: Avoid ultra-pasteurized cream, as it doesn’t separate as well. Additionally, the longer you rinse, the longer your butter will last. And lastly, for flavored butter, fold in honey, herbs, roasted garlic, or cinnamon after salting. #homemadebutter #fromscratchcooking #kitchenskills #tasteofhome

Homemade bread in ONE HOUR and it turns out perfect every time 🍞 No stand mixer. No complicated steps. No multiple rises. Everything goes in one bowl, shape the loaves, let them rise on the warm oven for 20 minutes, and bake. It’s the easiest bread recipe I make and the texture is unbelievably soft every time. Saving this one will change your bread game 🤍 Recipe below OR commmt BREAD and I’ll send you a printable version so you’ll always have it on hand! 1 HOUR HOMEMADE BREAD 🍞 One bowl • No mixer • No double rise INGREDIENTS • 5 ¾ cups all-purpose flour • 2 ½ cups warm water • 1 Tbsp rapid-rise yeast • ¼ cup honey or sugar • ⅓ cup melted coconut oil • 2 tsp coarse salt INSTRUCTIONS 1. In a large bowl add water, yeast, honey (or sugar), oil, salt, and flour. 2. Mix with a spoon until a soft dough forms. 3. Knead in the bowl or on the counter for about 5 minutes until smooth. 4. Divide dough into 2 loaves and place into greased loaf pans. 5. Set the pans on top of your preheating oven and let rise for about 20 minutes, or until doubled. 6. Bake at 350°F for 25–30 minutes until golden brown. Soft, fluffy homemade bread in about 1 hour. #easybreadrecipe #homemadebread #fromscratchcooking #simpleingredients #bakingfromscratch

One thing that really surprised me this year was that everything I learnt to make from scratch used four ingredients or less. It was a quiet reminder that good food doesn’t have to be complicated, and that a lot of what we buy at the supermarket has been made far more complex than it needs to be. Recipes for these are all on my page 🫶🏻 Cooking from scratch was one of my favourite hobbies in 2025, and I can’t wait to see what I learn to make next in 2026 (tomorrow!?!). It doesn’t mean I always make these things from scratch, but I love knowing that I can, and knowing how 🥰 Happy NYE!! 🧡✨ • • • #cookfromscratch #simplefood #realfoodathome #fromscratchcooking #homemadecooking

Day 27 of living more frugally, but in a way that actually feels good as a busy mum. Today I tried adding leftover ground coffee into my granola… and honestly? It works. It gives it this deep, slightly chocolatey flavour like a homemade mocha granola ☕🍫 I love finding little ways to use what I already have instead of buying more. ⸻ ☕ Coffee Granola Recipe You’ll need: • 2 cups oats • 1 handful pecans • 1 handful walnuts • 1 handful cashews • 2 tbsp sunflower seeds • 2 tbsp pumpkin seeds • 2 tbsp cocoa powder • 2–3 tbsp honey • 1–2 tbsp used ground coffee (dried out) ⸻ 🥣 Method 1. Preheat oven to 160°C (fan). 2. In a bowl, mix oats, nuts, seeds, cocoa powder, and ground coffee. 3. Add honey and mix until everything is coated. 4. Spread onto a lined baking tray. 5. Bake for 15–20 minutes, stirring halfway through. 6. Let it cool (this is when it crisps up). ⸻ It’s slightly crunchy, a little rich, and feels like something you’d buy in a fancy little café… but made from what you already had at home. #frugalliving #lowwasteliving #fromscratchcooking #budgetfriendlymeals #simpleliving

I’m back with another food shop, this week I got everything from Sainsbury. We’re a family of 5 (3 sons 13,11,11 so like feeding adults) who are focusing on reducing ultra processed foods and cooking more from scratch. This food shop, coupled with things I still had in the pantry cupboard and feeezer, will feed us breakfasts, lunches and dinners for 9 days. I spent £172 so that works out to be £19.11 per day or £3.82 p we person per day. Let me know in the comments if you think I got more or less than last weeks shop when I went to three supermarkets, Aldi, Morrisons and M&S. Would you like to see what I make with all of this? #cookingfromscratch #foodshopping #foodshop #fromscratchcooking #familyfood

I’m 26 and only just learning how to properly cook from scratch 🫣 My partner’s a chef so for years he’s done most of the cooking, but lately I’ve been trying to actually learn…not just follow a recipe but understand flavours and how to fix things when they go wrong. @cardiff.mum has honestly helped so much with the inspiration. Just wondering if anyone else feels like they’re learning these things a bit later too? #learningtocook #mumlife #fromscratchcooking #homecookingjourney #cardiffmum
