💔Send this to a friend who still swears by mouthwash. I used to think mouthwash was harmless. Fresh breath = good, right? But when I started looking at the research, I realized we’ve been getting this all wrong. 📌 Here’s what the science says (PMID: 31542940, 31709856): Mouthwash doesn’t just kill bad breath—it kills the bacteria on your tongue that help regulate blood pressure. Your body needs those bacteria to convert nitrates from food into nitric oxide (NO)—a molecule that relaxes and widens blood vessels, keeping blood pressure in check. 🚨 So what happens when you wipe them out? NO levels drop, and blood pressure can start rising. At first, I thought, “Okay, interesting correlation.” But then I asked myself: 👉 If mouthwash raises blood pressure, could we lower blood pressure by supporting those same bacteria? 📌 Turns out, YES (PMID: 30881924). This study showed that simply scraping your tongue—instead of using mouthwash—actually helps restore the NO pathway and can lower blood pressure. That was the moment everything clicked. 💡 This isn’t just about fresh breath. It’s about your heart health. Instead of trying to disinfect the mouth, we need to support the oral microbiome and feed the good guys! So if you’re using mouthwash daily, especially an antibacterial one—it might be time to rethink it. Instead, try tongue scraping. It’s simple, effective, and works with your body instead of against it. Now tell me—have you ditched mouthwash yet? #oralhealth #bloodpressure #hearthealth #dentaltips #mouthwash #wellnessjourney #dentistapproved #functionalhealth #tonguescraping

💚 Since a breast cancer diagnosis I'm more proactive about what's happening inside my body. Mammography, ultrasound and MRI's are important screening tools; they can detect cancer & spot other things when they're already present, or at early stages. But to these are five markers that I keep an eye on throughout the year, that can signal things are moving in the wrong direction, before a diagnosis. No test offers guarantees, but I'm 'building my fence'. (Based on an old poem that asks whether it's better to build a fence at the top of the cliff to stop people falling, or have ambulances waiting down below). 🧪 1. CA 15-3 (Tumour Marker) Elevated levels don't confirm cancer, but they can flag inflammation in breast tissue. Worth checking if you're experiencing unexplained swelling, fatigue, skin changes on your chest, or persistent PMS symptoms. 2. Homocysteine Rarely tested, yet directly linked to thrombosis risk, poor circulation and microvascular changes. Particularly relevant for women over 40 dealing with hormonal fluctuations, blood pressure changes or recurring headaches. 3. Vitamin D and Ferritin Vitamin D below 30 ng/ml is associated with faster skin ageing, reduced immunity & increased risk of cellular dysfunction. Ferritin measures your iron reserves. When it's low, your cells are essentially running on empty, which shows up as fatigue, hair loss & low mood. Two markers, one simple blood draw. 4. C-Reactive Protein (CRP) This measures systemic inflammation, not a single event but a background state. Chronic, low-grade inflammation is increasingly understood as a common thread in late-stage diagnoses across cancer, diabetes and autoimmune conditions. Especially worth monitoring if these run in your family. A final thought: None of these tests replace your GP or your screening appointments. But asking for them is a reasonable, informed choice, & you're entitled to advocate & invest your own health. Knowledge isn't fear. It's power. 💬 Do you take regular blood tests? #BreastCancerAwareness #FunctionalHealth #WomensHealth #CancerPrevention #BloodTests HealthScreening JuliaBradbury WomensWellness PreventativeHealth HealthyWomen

Let’s play a round of: Is it perimenopause… or do I just need a detox? 👀 Well here’s the truth mama—sometimes the symptoms overlap. Yup. Bloating. Brain fog. Mood swings. Sluggish digestion. Skin changes. And the answer? It can be both. As our hormones shift in our 40s, the liver and gut are working overtime. When toxins build up, those “perimenopause” symptoms get amplified. That’s why a gentle detox can make such a difference. It doesn’t “cure” perimenopause—but it helps your system handle the load, so the symptoms don’t feel as heavy. ✨ This is why I’ve been looking at @health_nag’s 3-Day Detox. It’s not a harsh cleanse or a laxative 🚫🚽. It’s: 1️⃣ Practitioner-formulated 2️⃣ Clean (no sugar, no fillers, no gimmicks) 3️⃣ Packed with probiotics, prebiotics, enzymes + plant-based protein to support liver + gut health 4️⃣ Designed to keep you full and energized (not drained like juice cleanses) 5️⃣ Travel-friendly sachets = easy to integrate into a busy lifestyle! And honestly? I wish I had known earlier that supporting my gut and liver this way would ease so many of the things I thought were “just perimenopause.” 💛 Because braving your 40s isn’t about pushing through—it’s about listening to your body and giving it what it actually needs. Would you try a gentle 3-day detox? Instead of waiting until something breaks and reacting with medication or procedures, this new approach focuses on staying healthy before the disease ever starts. That means measuring what matters your sleep, your muscle mass, your blood sugar, your stress and taking daily action through nutrition, supplementation, movement, and recovery. It’s about setting measurable goals, tracking progress, and holding yourself accountable so your health becomes something you build, not something you fix. 🎧 Watch or listen to the full Well Beyond 40 episode now through the link in our bio | The Missing Manual for Men's Health and Longevity with Dr. Myles Spar #WellBeyond40Podcast #Medicine3point0 #PreventionIsPower #MetabolismFix #FunctionalHealth #HealthyAgingTips #WomenOver40Wellness #WellnessJourney

🔥 The Biggest Lie in Nutrition — And Why You’ve Been Fooled 🚨 Myth: Supplements could replace the nutrients of real whole food. 100% ridiculous lie. Period. Do not let the corruption and the ignorance of social media who believes you are a stupid, easily fooled person. Period. Nothing will replace the nutrients received by the body from good, wholesome, whole, organic food. Period. Nothing beats it. Now supplements are helpful if your body specifically needs them. Comment, but how do you know your body needs them? Because a supplement may do this or may do that, or they help with this or help with that. That doesn’t mean that’s specific to you. You are the most complex human organic creation. There are so many variables going on that for you to ignorantly and haphazardly think because something may do this or that, you could take it and your body needs it. Period. The only way you know specifically about what your body can benefit from or not benefit from is through proper testing. You never guess, you test. You will save yourself so much time, so much frustration. So before you do supplements and before you do all these other things, always make sure your whole foods are perfect. They’re organic. They’re full of nutrition. Then only through proper testing—through blood, through saliva, through urine, there are multiple ways to test—you can then see what vitamins or nutrients you may be slightly deficient in. From there, you can either replace that with food, but if not, then and only then can we look towards supplements. If you have any questions about this, just DM me personally and let’s start chatting. #WholeFoodFirst #NutritionTruth #HealthOptimization #TestDontGuess #BioIndividuality #MensHealth #4DMan #StallionProject #HolisticHealth #EatRealFood #OrganicLiving #WellnessWisdom #Longevity #FunctionalHealth #ChrisZaino

Ever wonder why you’re exhausted—even after a full night’s sleep? We talk about energy a lot, but rarely get to the root of what’s draining it. It’s not just lack of sleep or stress... it’s also what’s on your plate. If you’re ready to reclaim sustainable energy, it starts with blood sugar balance, nutrient density, and reducing inflammatory inputs. Your energy isn’t random. It’s data. GLP-1 medications like semaglutide and tirzepatide are transforming obesity and diabetes care — but at a huge cost 💉💰 A single patient can cost the NHS over £1,000–£2,000 per year on GLP-1 therapy. If just 1 in 20 adults in the UK were prescribed these drugs, the total could exceed £5 billion annually 😳 — a massive burden for taxpayers. Imagine if even a fraction of that investment went into personalised nutrition, fitness, and behavioural support instead. For the same £5 billion, we could fund comprehensive lifestyle programmes for over 5 million people — including access to dietitians, PTs, and health coaches for a full year. 💬 Medication can help — but lifestyle medicine remains the foundation. Prevention always costs less than cure. #GLP1 #Semaglutide #Tirzepatide #LifestyleMedicine #ObesityCare #NHS #PublicHealth #GPperspective #MetabolicHealth #PreventativeMedicine #HealthEconomics #NutritionMatters #ExerciseIsMedicine #WeightManagement #DoctorThoughts #HealthInequality #TaxpayerMoney #EvidenceBasedMedicine #FunctionalHealth #MedicalWellness

Stop fearing LDL, or even total cholesterol 👀 Instead look at the metabolic story. (And just say no to statins 🚫) Often folks don’t want to pay for functional testing - and in my practice you don’t have to, because we can tell a tremendous amount from just your standard labs that your family doc runs. One of the most important is a metabolic marker from your lipid panel. And psssst it isn’t total cholesterol. It’s your: Triglycerides / HDL ratio Why? 🤔 Well your Triglycerides rise when your liver is converting excess sugar into fat and your HDL falls when your insulin stays high. So the ratio of Triglycerides/ HDL becomes a window into your insulin sensitivity or insulin resistance — years before other markers. And 1/10 of functional la testing. So get out your most recent labs. Look for triglycerides and HDL. Divide triglycerides by HDL and you will get a number. If your number is < 1 = metabolically flexible 🔥 (GOAAL!) 1–2 = healthy 2–3 = insulin resistance 3 = metabolic dysfunction 5 + = severe cardiovascular risk (So statins change the lab numbers but not the risk) You can have “high LDL” and be metabolically healthy… and you can with “normal cholesterol” can be severely insulin resistant and have very high cardiovascular risk. But the ratio - tells us the metabolic story. #naturopath #functionalnutrition #insulinresistance #functionalwellness #metabolicbalance
