🔥 GJFD Recruit Academy 2026-01 | Foundation Block Training Part 2 🔥 The work doesn’t slow down in Foundation Block, and neither do our recruits. As temperatures rise, so does the intensity of training. Wearing full PPE, recruits are pushing through conditions that can quickly elevate body temperature, all while staying focused on the fundamentals that will carry them through their careers. From mastering essential skills to building muscle memory for critical tasks, every repetition matters. Add in the heat, and it becomes as much a mental challenge as a physical one. Hydration, awareness, and discipline are key as recruits learn to recognize their limits while continuing to perform under pressure. They’re not just learning the job, they’re learning how to operate when conditions are far from comfortable. And that’s exactly what the fireground demands. #GJFD #RecruitAcademy #FirefighterTraining #FoundationBlock #TrainHardStaySafe #ServingGJ #GoodMorning #GJPD #GJFD #PreparedToServe #GrandJunctionFireDepartment #ServingOurCommunity #TakingCareGJ #morewaystofightfire #goinginteriorpodcast #PublicSafety #EmergencyResponse #GJFD #firefighter #emt #paramedic

Recruit Class 77 wrapped up another tough week at the Connecticut Fire Academy. - Hazardous materials operations. - Ground ladders. - SCBA confidence and air management. - Hose line advancement and water movement. - And much more! This wasn’t classroom theory. This was hands-on work. Cold weather. Heavy gear. Repetition until it’s right. The fundamentals that win on the fireground are built exactly like this, one evolution at a time. You could see the growth as the week went on. That’s what happens when you put in the work and hold the standard. The basics matter. They always have. Class 77 is earning it. Keep pushing.

Building Knowledge. Developing Skill. Preparing Firefighters. Recruit Class 77 at the Connecticut Fire Academy continues to build the foundation today’s firefighters need to operate safely and effectively on the modern fireground. Recruits are on the training ground working with and on ladders while also working through a series of UL FSRI Fire Dynamics learning stations designed to connect classroom knowledge with hands-on experience. Training stations included: • Tabletop fire dynamics exercises to understand fire development and flow paths • Candle demonstrations showing the basics of flame behavior and heat release • Pressure lab exploring how ventilation and openings influence fire conditions • Dollhouse burn demonstrations visualizing fire growth and smoke movement in structures • Alcohol prop demonstrations illustrating fire behavior in a controlled environment • Water mapping demonstrations showing how hose streams move heat and gases within a compartment • Live fire behavior demonstrations reinforcing how modern fires react to firefighter actions Understanding fire behavior and how water application changes conditions is critical to making sound tactical decisions on the fireground. Class 77 continues to put in the work, strengthening both their knowledge base and hands-on skills as they prepare for the job ahead. #CTFireAcademy #RecruitTraining #FireDynamics #ULFSRI #FirefighterTraining FireBehavior

Connecticut Fire Academy – Recruit Program Weekly Recap Another strong week in the books for our Recruit Firefighter Program. This week, recruits continued to build the foundation that matters on the fireground. Training focused on both the basics and the details that make the difference when it counts. • SCBA operations and confidence under air • Hose line advancement and coordinated fire attack • Ropes and knots tied back to real-world application • Fire extinguishers and early fire control fundamentals • Vehicle extrication and tool familiarization Every evolution is about repetition, discipline, and doing the job the right way. These recruits are putting in the work, pushing each other, and improving every day. The standard is clear. The expectation is high. And they are meeting it. #CTFireAcademy #FirefighterTraining #RecruitClass #TrainToPerform #FireService

Today the Connecticut Fire Academy Recruit Program had the opportunity to welcome chiefs and department representatives from across the state to observe and learn more about the physical training program that supports our recruits. The PT program is an important part of preparing the next generation of firefighters. It focuses on building strength, endurance, and durability so recruits can safely meet the physical demands of the job and operate effectively on the fireground. We appreciate the chiefs and department representatives who took the time to visit, ask questions, and see firsthand how the Academy is working to prepare recruits both physically and mentally for the profession. Your continued engagement and support help ensure that when these recruits return to your departments, they arrive ready to perform, ready to learn, and ready to serve their communities. Thank you for your commitment to the future of the Connecticut fire service. #CTFireAcademy #FireTraining #RecruitTraining #FireServiceFitness

Recruit training continues at the Connecticut Fire Academy as the members of Recruit Class 77 build both their skills and their understanding of the work ahead. Each day they are challenged with new tasks, new information, and new expectations. More importantly, they are learning the reason behind the work. Understanding why we do something is just as important as knowing how to do it. The progress is clear. Confidence is growing, skills are sharpening, and the recruits continue to improve with every evolution. The future of the fire service is working hard. #CTFireAcademy #RecruitTraining #FirefighterTraining #AnswerTheCall

Training at Fire Station 153 At Fire Station 153, Engine 153 and Medical Response 153, led by Captain Tammy Cifra and Captain Amber Campbell, spent the day sharpening the fundamentals that matter most when conditions are at their worst. This training focused on coupling identification — understanding the direction of the hose line and knowing instantly which way leads you in and which way leads you out. When seconds matter inside a working fire, that knowledge is critical for both advancing toward the seat of the fire and safely exiting the structure. Crews took it a step further by operating blindfolded, simulating zero-visibility conditions. Smoke-filled environments don’t offer second chances. Training without sight reinforces muscle memory, teamwork, and calm decision-making under pressure. Preparedness is built before the call ever comes in. Engine 153 and Medical Response 153 continue putting in the work to ensure they are ready when our community needs them most.
