We answered some of your FAQs about planting citrus in pots & added some tips to make sure you are successful in your citrus adventures! 🍋 Key points to keep in mind when planting citrus: 🪴they need fast drainage. They thrive in sandy soil because it doesn’t hold moisture for long, keeping their roots strong and healthy. 🍋 Citrus needs full outdoor sun to thrive. If you are outside of the citrus growing zones (usda 8-11) you can bring your potted tree indoors during winter and supplement with grow lights. 🏝️No plant is an island! Grow pollinator friendly blooms near your citrus to bring in the bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds that will pollinate the citrus blooms ensuring they turn into delicious fruit. Now you are ready to plant citrus in pots 🐝🍋🪴 Ask us any more questions in the comments below 👇 #citrus #containergardening #zone10 #meyerlemon #gardenhacks #gardentipsandtricks

One of the worst mistakes you can make when growing zinnias is to plant them when the weather is still cool. Zinnias are heat lovers- they grow quickly when the weather is warm but they stall out in cool weather. You won’t get a head start to the season if you plant them too early. It’s so hard to wait, but patience pays off here! I plant well after my last frost date- depending on the year, it could be 2 to 4 weeks after our official last frost date (~May 3). A good rule of thumb to use as a general guide for when to plant out is that night time air temperatures should be consistently at or above 10C/50F (and warmer during the day) and the soil should feel warm enough for you to sit on for a few minutes without getting cold. Want lavender that actually blooms? Start here ⬇️ ✨ Soil matters: Give it super well-draining soil. Mix in cactus mix or horticultural sand for happy roots. ☀️ Sun is crucial: Needs at least 6+ hours of direct sun every day. 🚫 Skip the snacks: Fertilizer = fewer blooms + floppy growth. Lavender loves lean living. 🪨 Gravel over bark: Mulch can trap moisture (root rot alert 🚨). Gravel keeps things dry & breezy. 💜 Try these hacks and you’ll have stunning, fragrant blooms spring through late summer! #lavenderharvest #lavenderhaze #lavendertips #gardentipsandtricks #latesummergarden #zone8a

Live in a cold climate like me? Tipping outdoor pots on their side before winter helps prevent cracking from freeze-thaw cycles. Upright pots can collect water or snow, which freezes and expands, putting pressure on the sides and base. Laying a pot on its side lets water and snow drain or spread along the soil, reducing stress on the pot. Do you have plants inside the pot? Dormant or hardy plants usually tolerate being tipped. What about the critters underneath? You can lay the pot in the same spot to protect hibernating insects—just check gently first so nothing is trapped. Extra tip: Terracotta pots are particularly prone to cracking—bring them indoors or into a sheltered spot if possible. New here? It’s time to feed your annuals! This time of year, when you are watering more frequently due to the summer heat, it’s even more important to feed your potted annuals. With each watering, more nutrients are being flushed out of the drainage holes in your containers. Replace them by feeding your plants with Proven Winners water soluble plant food. Now is also a good time to sprinkle a little more of our continuous release plant food on top of the soil to keep your plants growing and blooming strong through the fall. *Sound on to hear how Laura of @gardenanswer feeds her flowers.
