We have completed the £5.37m purchase of the Rhiw Shopping Centre – unlocking exciting new opportunities for the future of #Bridgend town centre. The 2.27 acre site will continue to operate as a shopping centre while plans are developed and existing businesses will be consulted on proposals and receive full support through any future developments. This investment not only secures the site and allows essential structural issues to be addressed but also opens the door to a fresh vision for the town centre. Future plans could include: • New retail spaces • Potential for a new market • Community facilities • Public realm improvements By bringing the site into council ownership, we can take a coordinated, long-term approach to regeneration—helping to protect the town centre and build a stronger future for residents, businesses and visitors. I’m committed to working with Government to ensure that our forthcoming High Street Strategy and Local Visitor Economy Strategy deliver for local Cornish businesses, workers, and communities and will be calling on Ministers to see St Austell and Newquay as a test case for addressing the challenges and seizing the opportunities these policy packages take on.
