CAIf you asked people what the #1 regret of early retirees is, most would probably say:
“Not saving enough money.”
And yes… that’s part of it.
But it’s not the whole story.
Many retirees say their biggest regrets actually have more to do with how they lived before retiring.
Here are a few things people often wish they had done differently:
1️⃣ Travelled more while they were younger and healthier.✈️
A lot of people delay their dream trips until “later.”
But sometimes health issues or life circumstances make those plans harder than expected.
2️⃣ Built additional sources of income.💰
Many retirees say they wish they had created a small, flexible income stream before leaving the workforce… so they didn’t feel pressure to rely only on their savings.
3️⃣ Built friendships outside of work.👥
When work disappears, sometimes the social circle disappears too.
Hobbies, volunteering, or community activities can make a big difference.
4️⃣ Had a clearer plan for how to spend their time.📅
Retirement sounds exciting… until the days start feeling long and purposeless.
Having structure, goals, and passions matters more than people expect.
For me personally, I believe life is meant to be lived while we still have the energy and health to enjoy it.
None of us are promised tomorrow.
So if you want more freedom in your future, it’s worth thinking about how you’ll spend your time and how you’ll support yourself.
Planning ahead can make all the difference.
