UNRecently, a video went viral claiming that “plastic rods” are being used in the construction of the **Indore–Ujjain Highway**.
But here’s the reality.
These are not plastic rods. They are **Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) rebars**, a modern construction material that is already being used globally in infrastructure projects.
It’s important to understand that not everyone posting such videos may have complete knowledge about **new construction technologies**, and that’s completely okay. But before forming opinions, we should always try to understand the facts.
These fiber rods are being used in specific areas like **drainage structures**, where traditional iron rods may corrode over time.
Why GFRP rods are used:
• They do not rust, making them ideal for water-exposed structures
• They are lightweight, making handling and installation easier
• They provide high tensile strength suitable for reinforced concrete
This project is part of the larger **Indore–Ujjain six-lane expansion and 48 km greenfield highway**, being developed with a long-term vision, especially keeping future needs like **Simhastha Kumbh 2028** in mind.
So instead of misinformation, this is actually an example of how **modern engineering and advanced materials are being used to build more durable infrastructure**.
