Got through a blizzard for this one. Worth every minute of it. Tom and I made a donation to the American Heart Association to help fund something we both believe in deeply: a new clinical curriculum that is finally going to get OBGYNs and cardiologists speaking the same language when it comes to women’s health. Yesterday morning on The View, I got to announce it live, and talk about Ajenda for seven uninterrupted minutes on national television, which anyone who has worked in this business knows is basically an eternity. I spent nearly two decades on television talking about medicine. I never take the platform for granted. But yesterday felt different, because this isn’t just information. It’s infrastructure. It’s changing what happens inside the exam room for women who deserve so much better than two specialists who have never compared notes on their care. Heart disease is still the number one killer of women in this country. Yesterday felt like one small but meaningful step toward changing that. This is what showing up in a blizzard is for. #HeartDisease #GoRedForWomen #WomensHealth #Cardiology #Menopause OBGYN Ajenda

"Normally it's just me in the baby home," Bre Khounphinith remembers about the day she had a cardiac arrest at six months postpartum. "That day my mother happened to be there and my husband. No one knew how to do CPR." Her husband performed CPR with help from a 911 dispatcher—paramedics arrived just in time with a defibrillator. Bre was shocked three times that day before her heart returned to a normal rhythm. Knowing CPR could save the life of someone you love, just like it saved Bre’s.

Brand new study, just off embargo, and reported in the Journal of the American Heart Association explores the link between fibroids and heart disease (ASCVD= atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease). Julia DiTosto et al looked at something that affects up to 80% of women, uterine fibroids, and followed over 2.7 million women with and without fibroids to see how many developed cardiovascular disease over a 10 year period of time. They found an elevated risk of heart disease amongst women with fibroids, that was between 1.8-2.4 times that of the control group. This elevated risk was consistently seen across different racial, ethnic and age subgroups, “suggesting a robust association.” What is NOT known at this time: the exact causative mechanism, although the two disease states share common features and a plausbile explanation is theorized to include inflammation, reactive oxidative species, endothelial dysfunction, and fibrosis/calcification. We don’t know if size, number or location of the fibroids affects risk. But we DO know that 80% of heart disease is preventable with behavioral modifications. Knowledge/awareness = power so if you have fibroids, show your doctor this new study. You can’t change having fiboirds, but you CAN take steps to lower your risk of future heart disease. This involves: optimizing your diet, activity level, sleep, stress, blood sugar, cholesterol, blood pressure, quitting tobacco and treating the conditions of overweight or obesity. #fibroids #heartdisease #goredforwomen #obgyn Study: DiTosto, J.D., et al. Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death for women, but many are unaware of this health risk. Actress Shohreh Aghdashloo, who is the first Iranian-Middle Eastern Academy Award nominee and Emmy winner, helped us raise awareness by walking the runway at the 2025 Red Dress Collection Concert earlier this year. "I Go Red for all the women who are affected by this disease," she said. "I Go Red for my family, for friends, and for countless women out there who may not even know they are at risk." Shohreh is a cardiovascular disease survivor who has mitral valve prolapse, also called MVP, a condition in which the two valve flaps of the mitral valve don't close smoothly or evenly, but bulge (prolapse) upward into the left atrium. Nearly 45-percent of women are living with some form of cardiovascular disease. #RedDressCollection x @saghdashloo

Part 2 of my rapid fire cardiology edition with @american_heart President, @dr_staceyrosen ❤️ If there is one thing that is clear about women and heart disease it is this: we are ALL at risk. There is no such thing as low risk, only average risk. So we need to be proactive about screening, testing, treatment and most of all, prevention. And Gyns need to serve as front-line physicians to identify risk factors, screen and encourage lifestyle modification or referral to a Cardiologist when appropriate. #heartdisease #goredforwomen #stresstest #gyn #cardiology
