At the highest levels of goaltending, breakdowns rarely come from major positional mistakes. More often, they originate from small inefficiencies within a sequence of movements.
During an RVH post to post transition — when the lead leg drives directly toward the post, the goalie maintains a clean path into the post integration. This allows the body to arrive on time, square, and under control, which preserves both timing and visual attachment to the puck.
However, when the leg falls behind instead of initiating the movement, the connection to the post becomes delayed. That small delay forces the goaltender to recover rather than execute, and the entire sequence becomes slightly late.

A fraction of a second lost on one movement often carries forward into the next. The result is a goaltender who is late on the final play, not because of a major error, but because of a small technical inefficiency earlier in the sequence.
High-level goaltending is therefore not only about positioning or athletic ability — it is about precision in the details that allow every movement in the sequence to arrive on time.
