🌊 Venice Beach is chaotic — cool for people-watching, not relaxing
🌄 Griffith Observatory = best free sunset + skyline view in the city
🍔 Best food is in strip malls (don’t judge, just try it)
🎥 Studios > beaches if you love behind-the-scenes Hollywood magic
🅿️ Parking is expensive everywhere — always check before you stop
🌅 Malibu feels like a different world — go if you have time
💥 LA quick truth: it’s not one city — it’s a spread-out mix of mini-cities

THThese are a few no-gos to keep in mind…
1. Do NOT take a celebrity house tour, neither on a bus nor a self-guided tour with a bogus map you bought. You won’t see anything but a bunch of gates and shrubbery. Admittedly, you will see some spectacular mansions driving around Beverly Hills, Holmby Hills, and Bel Air, but don’t go for the celebrity homes. It’s pointless.
2. Do NOT miss an opportunity to eat authentic Mexican food. Eat at taco stands and food trucks as much as you eat at fine dining restaurants — you won’t regret it.
3. Do NOT attempt a photo next to the giant letters of the Hollywood sign. They are in a restricted area and attempting to get close to or touch is prohibited. (Although some people do it and risk being charged for trespassing as it’s 24/hr monitored) The closest you can get is behind and above the Sign where you can enjoy views of the City. Start at Lake Hollywood Park and follow the trail - note some spots are steep.
4. Do NOT drink in public, anywhere - this isn’t Vegas. Just put your booze in a bottle.
5. Skip the crowded Runyon Canyon trails, which are fun but extremely crowded. Hike the 50-something miles of trails near the Griffith Observatory instead, and check out the fabulous view of the L.A. skyline and the observatory itself.
6. Don’t stare at the celebrities, bother them, or ask for autographs (Especially when they are not actively working). Only tourists do that-not locals.
7. Do not expect much from a visit to the Hollywood Walk of Fame - go to TCL (Grauman’s Chinese) Theater for nostalgia Hollywood -skip the rest.
8. Do NOT miss driving down Bushnell Avenue in South Pasadena if you are a Back to the Future fan, or touring the nearby Gamble House. These bring back memories from the awesome trilogy and are well-preserved areas of classic, old school LA.
9. DO NOT ignore peak traffic hours to get around the city. You will sorely regret it.
