Personnel from Coast Guard Station Castle Hill worked alongside the American Academy of Canine Water Rescue during a training and safety demonstration with three of their water rescue canines.
These dogs have been trained to rescue people in the water and bring them safely back to shore by swimming out from shore or even jumping off a boat. The joint training highlighted the ability for the Coast Guard to effectively operate with local organizations to effect rescues at sea.

ELToday marks ten years since the tragic attack at Parliament Hill when Corporal Nathan Cirillo was killed on guard at the National War Memorial. My thoughts are with his loved ones who suffered an unimaginable loss. This senseless and brutal attack could have harmed more inside the Parliament complex if not for the courage and heroism of former Sergeant-at-Arms, Kevin Vickers. I am forever grateful to him, Const. Curtis Barrett, and Const. Samearn Son who despite being unarmed took a gunshot to the leg to stop the attacker. Thank you to all members of the Parliamentary Protective Services for your work and to the brave Ottawa residents who risked their lives that day to stay with Corporal Cirillo.
