Baby and I are both healthy and well so there is no reason to rush anything. I am trying to focus on staying busy and patiently waiting for my baby’s arrival. ⬇️Story time (Disclaimer: NOT medical advice) With my first baby, I transferred to the hospital after over 36 hours of labor for a vacuum assisted delivery, as my daughter had trouble descending past my pelvic bone. I was disappointed, but thankful for a smooth transfer. We had no medical problems or risk factors, and were happy with how the staff treated us. ➡️Until I returned for my 6 week checkup with the same doctor who helped deliver her. 🚨At this appointment, he cautioned me strongly that attempting to have another home birth would be foolish and dangerous, since my first baby got stuck all future babies were likely to as well. The more he talked, the more clear it became that he had very little knowledge of midwifery care or natural physiological birth. I’m so glad I didn’t listen to him. I KNEW that I could birth babies safely at home, and I had the support of my wise midwives. ☀️I wish I could see that doctor today and introduce him to my next four children, all birthed safely and smoothly in the comfort of my home, without getting stuck. (Even my ten pounder!) Today, my husband met our midwife in person. Until now, he had only joined our interview over Zoom, so it felt like a really special moment. Long before I was pregnant with this baby, I knew that if I was ever given the chance to carry one more… I felt God calling me to welcome this baby in our home. Over the past few years, I’ve learned so much as a Doula, and it made me want a birth experience that felt personal, supportive and shaped around how I wanted to experience birth. I believe birth is a family experience, and with three other children, I wanted this last birth to truly include and honor our whole family. I’ve had two unmedicated hospital births and one cesarean, and this time, I wanted something different — not because one way is better, but because it just felt right. This choice may not be for everyone — and that’s okay. For me, it has been filled with faith, clarity, and peace for a long time. I can’t control the outcome, but I refuse to let fear determine how I prepare.🙏🏻 I didn’t share right away because… honestly, I loved that only a close group of people knew— and God. It wasn’t because of fear of judgement or negative comments… because this decision was made in prayer and it’s personal to me. But now, as I enter this last trimester, I want to be more open about this journey. I hope it encourages other women to trust their instincts, gather support and prepare for the birth experience they feel called to, whatever that may look like. We’ve been preparing for a VBAC at home, and I’ll be sharing more of this journey as it unfolds. Stay with me🤍

There were no reported deaths among the mothers. When comparing women planning to give birth at home with those planning to do so in a hospital, the findings showed that women at home were less likely to experience certain medical procedures or complications. Specifically: 🏠 They were 42% less likely to have a cesarean section. 🏠 They were 58% less likely to have an operative vaginal birth. 🏠 They were 70% less likely to receive an epidural for pain relief. 🏠 They were 55% less likely to have an episiotomy, a surgical cut made during childbirth. 🏠 They were 43% less likely to experience a severe tear (third or fourth degree) during delivery. 🏠 They were 63% less likely to need oxytocin, a medication used to speed up labour. 🏠 They were 77% less likely to develop an infection after giving birth. When looking at postpartum hemorrhage (excessive bleeding after childbirth), women planning home births were either less likely to experience this condition or had similar rates compared to those delivering in hospitals, with the results showing a 34% lower likelihood in some studies. The same patterns were seen when the results were broken down based on whether it was their first birth or if they had given birth before, as well as how well the home birth was integrated into the healthcare system.
