Running didn’t make her gain weight. Her fueling strategy did. I see this ALL the time. Women go from lifting to running more but keep eating the same way. High protein, lower carbs and not much thought around fueling before, during, or after runs. 💥And that’s where things start to feel off. Because running — especially longer runs — massively increases your need for carbohydrates. That fuel gets stored as glycogen in your muscles. And here’s the part most people don’t know about: when we store carbs as glycogen, we retain more water. So more training + more glycogen = more water retention Add in: → under-fueling → poor recovery → higher overall stress and now your body is holding even MORE water. So you feel heavier, puffier, and softer, and assume it's fat. But most of the time it’s not. Now layer in this piece: If you’re not fueling your runs properly — especially carbs before or during longer sessions — your body will absolutely try to make up for it later. That “I just want to eat everything” feeling? That’s your body trying to catch up because you didn’t eat enough around your runs. And yes — it’s a lot easier to eat 1000 calories than it is to burn 1000 calories. So if your mindset becomes: “I ran, so I can eat whatever I want,” you can very easily overshoot what your body actually needs. When people stop running and lose weight it’s usually because their: • appetite drops • total stress drops • intake becomes easier to manage 🔥The takeaway: Running doesn’t make you gain fat. A mismatch between your training, fueling, and recovery does.
