TRWhen I first started working on my game, I wasnโt coaching, just hungry to improve. But I fell into a trap so many players do:
I copied drills I saw online or heard from people who didnโt fully understand the game. I was grinding, but aimlessly. The drills werenโt connected to how I actually handled the ball in games. I didnโt understand what really made a good handle ๐ฌ๐ค๐ง๐ .
Now, after years of studying and coaching players at high levels, I know that handle improvement isnโt just about doing more reps: itโs about training the ๐ง๐๐๐๐ฉ ๐ฉ๐๐๐ฃ๐๐จ.
So how should you actually train your handle?
โค ๐. ๐๐๐ฅ๐ฅ ๐๐๐ง๐ข๐ฉ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง โ control the ball in ๐๐๐ฆ position, at any angle, no matter where it is. Behind, far, close, low, or awkward โ this is your base.
โค ๐. ๐๐ข๐ฉ ๐๐จ๐๐ข๐ฅ๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ โ yes, ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ก๐ฆ. Shifty players like Kyrie lean, dip, and switch angles because their body lets them. Control your hips = control your moves.
โค ๐. ๐๐ฒ๐ง๐๐ฆ๐ข๐ ๐๐ฉ๐๐๐ ๐๐จ๐ฆ๐๐จ๐ฌ โ not static drills. I mean ๐๐๐ฃ๐๐๐, ๐๐๐๐ค๐๐๐ combos at game rhythm with consistent footwork and posture.
โค ๐. ๐๐๐๐ฅ-๐๐๐ฆ๐ ๐๐จ๐ฆ๐๐จ๐ฌ โ if you want to be great ๐๐-๐๐๐๐, train ๐๐-๐๐๐๐. Build your go-toโs, develop your reads, and train your coordination like itโs a language.
โค ๐. ๐๐ก๐๐ง๐ ๐ ๐จ๐ ๐๐๐ข๐ ๐ก๐ญ & ๐๐๐๐ โ this is what ๐๐๐ก๐ข๐๐๐๐ฆ gets you by defenders. High to low. Slow to explosive. Calm to ๐๐ก๐ก๐๐๐. The most important separator.
Train these individually & then connect them. Thatโs how I changed my training. Thatโs when I started seeing real results.
Donโt waste another session doing drills that donโt move you forward. Work smart, not just hard.
