A clogged shower head is usually caused by mineral buildup from hard water. Calcium and lime deposits slowly block the small spray holes, reducing water pressure and flow. Vinegar is effective because its acidity dissolves these mineral deposits. The improvement is not instant. Soaking takes time to break down buildup that has formed over weeks or months. Vinegar cleaning works by chemical reaction, not force. The shower head functions best when water flows evenly through all openings. Removing mineral buildup restores proper spray pattern and pressure without damaging the fixture. Soaking the head in vinegar or filling a bag and tying it around the fixture allows deposits to dissolve safely. Harsh scrubbing can damage finishes and seals. Simple chemistry solves the problem more effectively than strength.

You can buy a tester strip online for a few pounds & it’s super easy to do. Signs of hard water build up: ➡️ Hair feels stiff/Brittle ➡️ Breakage ➡️ Shampoos stick to the roots and don’t seem to wash out ➡️ Hair looks dull ➡️ White flakes on scalp ➡️ Products don’t seem to be working ➡️ Hair feels weighed down My water is very hard and I need to use a hard water cleanser around every 3 washes; occasionally I time it wrong, & this is the result, mineral deposits and shampoo combining to make a film that won’t rinse out; this wash won’t last long. (Believe it or not, this was even with a detox shampoo). I’ll fix this by using Bumble & Bumble Sunday wash which contains sulphates as well as hard water removal agents; this will give my hair and scalp the deep clean that it needs.
