1. Ambient voice AI (Heidi, Tandem, Abridge). Transforms consultations into structured notes, letters, and codes. Redefines documentation and clinic efficiency.
2. Clinical decision support. Enhances diagnostic reasoning, triage, and guideline adherence at point of care. There aren’t many big players here yet due to regulatory hurdles.
3. Diagnostics AI (Skin Analytics, DeepHealth, Aidoc). Analyses imaging and clinical data for detection, prioritisation, and early diagnosis.
4. Operational and admin AI (Notable, Anterior, Qventus). Optimises scheduling, patient flow, discharge processes, and system logistics.
5. Foundational model builders (Deepmind, OpenAI, Anthropic). Develop the core models powering the entire health AI ecosystem. Highest leverage layer to work in.
AI will not replace all doctors. But it will augment clinicians and change workflows permanently. Doctors who understand it will shape the future. Those who ignore it will have it imposed on them.
