PRI’m flexible in a lot of my perspectives in higher ed, but these are some of the hills I’ll die on. What are yours? 🤔
- Grades are an outcomes assessment. You can try your best but it doesn’t mean you deserve a 4.0.
- Equity is sometimes being used to add more work without the systems to support it. And no, this isn’t about excusing low effort from some faculty…it’s about not overburdening the people actually doing the work.
- “I suffered, so they should too” is the most common (and imo dumbest) philosophy in higher ed.
- Grades are way too inflated today, and we are confusing completion with what should be mastery.
- Doctoral students aren’t being adequately trained to know all the different career options, and too many advising models are still built for a single academic pipeline that no longer reflects reality.
