Day 3 of teaching my kids 100 things to make from scratch before they leave home… and today we made homemade donuts 🍩 Donuts take me straight back to my childhood 🫶🏼 One of my favorite memories was watching my mom make donuts in the kitchen and eating those warm gooey pockets of joy fresh out of the glaze 😋 So today we recreated that memory together 💕 The kids rolled the dough, cut the donuts, stirred the glaze, and of course… taste tested everything 🤪 We made classic glazed donuts and some with sprinkles and they were absolutely delicious 🍩 This is exactly why I started this series — to pass down real life skills and the memories that come with them 🥹 And yes… they devoured them immediately 😂 If you’re homeschooling or simply want to teach your kids life skills in the kitchen, this recipe is the perfect place to start 🍩 Homemade Donut Recipe Donuts • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast • ¾ cup warm milk (105–110°F) • ¼ cup sugar • 1 egg • 3 tbsp melted butter • ½ tsp salt • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour • oil for frying Glaze • 2 cups powdered sugar • 3–4 tbsp milk • ½ tsp vanilla extract Directions 1️⃣ Activate yeast with warm milk + yeast + 1 tsp sugar. Let foam 5–10 minutes. 2️⃣ Add remaining sugar, egg, butter, and salt. Mix. 3️⃣ Gradually add flour and knead 5–6 minutes until smooth. 4️⃣ Let dough rise 1 hour until doubled. 5️⃣ Roll dough to ½ inch thick and cut donuts. 6️⃣ Let rise again 20–30 minutes. 7️⃣ Fry in 350°F oil about 1 minute per side. 8️⃣ Dip warm donuts into glaze and let set. ✨ Kid jobs • cutting donut shapes • stirring glaze • dipping donuts • decorating with sprinkles 💡 Homestead tip Save the donut holes and fry them too — they cook in about 30 seconds and kids love them 👉Follow along as we teach our kids 100 things to make from scratch before they leave home 👀What should Day 4 be? #homemadeddonuts #fromscratchcooking #teachyourkidscooking #homeschoollife #raisingcapablekids
