Today, I was honored to present HB 565 before the Government, Labor, & Elections Committee, Chaired by @delegatemelissawells This legislation is about protecting the integrity of representation. Communities deserve to have their voices heard—not diluted or marginalized. HB 565 ensures that only residents within a designated school board or commission district can vote for their respective representatives. Local representation should reflect the will of the people who actually live in that district. I also introduced an amendment requiring every school board across the State of Maryland to adopt a formal Anti-Racism policy. Our students deserve learning environments that are safe, equitable, and free from discrimination. If we are serious about equity, we must be intentional about accountability. Representation matters. Fairness matters. And our commitment to justice must be reflected not just in our words, but in our laws.

Last night, I spoke on the House floor in support of HB 488 because what’s happening across this country is real - and it is wrong. Last night I spoke about the hard won progress for women in the workplace, the military, education, and access to health care which is under attack, and in too many places, progress has been rolled back decades. We cannot be silent at a moment like this. America is at a crossroads. And when history calls, we must answer. My promise remains the same: I will fight for our district, our state, and for every Marylander whose voice deserves to be heard. Because in this country, the people are still the check on power through their voices and through those they elect to represent them. And that is why I voted in favor of Congressional Redistricting.
