Without it, the message still travels safely from your phone to Meta’s servers, but once it lands, it sits there in a form Meta can read. Postcard, not letter.😳 Here’s what changes, according to Fortune, Engadget, and Proton. After Friday, Meta can scan DM content for moderation, AI tools, advertising signals, and law enforcement requests. Encrypted chats convert to standard chats. Existing “secret” conversations get decrypted and stored. 🚩And the part worth knowing. Meta is keeping encryption on WhatsApp. Keeping it on Messenger. Instagram is the only Meta app losing it. The platform that drives the most ad revenue from message data is the one going open. A practical rule going forward, based on what privacy experts recommend: 📬 Casual chats with friends. Fine to keep on Instagram. 🔒 Account info, passwords, two-factor codes. Never in DMs anywhere, but especially not now. 🔒 Anything financial, medical, or legal.
