He demonstrated significantly improved postural control during sitting and standing activities and learned how to sit up from the floor with way less help. I am currently reading Designing Data-Intensive Applications and the first chapter was a refresher on Reliability, Scalability and Maintainability. Software Systems have increasingly started becoming data-intensive rather than compute intensive. What this means is that systems are now doing processing, storing, caching and querying of data at higher rates than ever done before. And when we are building these data intensive applications, the three most important things are Reliability, Scalability and Maintainability. Reliability - No matter the hardware fails or software fails or there are human errors, systems are supposed to keep running and giving the right output to the customer. Even if AWS goes down, your system should keep running. Scalability - Even with increased loads, your system should still work reliably. More often than not system performance starts degrading when you see an increase in traffic, this could be the increase in data or the increasing requests to your service. You can either provision your system manually or automatically depending on the pattern of usage on your service. Maintainability- Developers hate taking care of legacy systems, no one wants to fix the mistakes of others. So we try to build services that do not become legacy systems by making sure we make them simple to understand to new people, monitor them as part of operations and have abstraction where necessary.
