We’ve all heard this at the end of an interview: “Thanks for your time, we’ll be in touch soon.” Sounds positive. But “soon” can mean tomorrow… or never. If you don’t clarify the timeline, you lose momentum. Here’s how to handle it properly: Say this at the end of the interview: “Thank you. Just to confirm, when would be a good time for me to follow up if I don’t hear back?” This shows: • confidence • clarity • ownership of the process If they stay vague, follow up with: “I’m currently in conversations with a few companies. Is it okay if I check back in by a specific date?” Now you’re not waiting and overthinking. You’re setting expectations and staying visible. The questions that feel too uncomfortable to ask in interviews are exactly the ones that reveal whether you're accepting a great opportunity or a six-figure nightmare. These questions have personally made me walk away from lucrative offers because the answers exposed toxic cultures I would have spent years escaping 💼 Uncomfortable questions you should ask before accepting any job offer: 1. Why did the last person leave this role, and the person before them? If they're evasive or can't answer, that's your answer. High turnover in a specific role is a massive red flag about the position, the team, or the manager. 2. Can you give me specific examples of work-life balance here? Don't accept vague promises about "culture." Ask for concrete examples. If they can't name any, the balance doesn't exist. 3. What's the team's biggest challenge right now? If leadership can't clearly articulate current problems, they're either out of touch or hiding something. Either way, you're walking into dysfunction. 4. How are decisions actually made here, and who has real authority? Understand where power actually lives versus org chart hierarchy. Misalignment between stated and actual authority creates constant friction. 5. What happened during your last layoff, and how did you decide who stayed? This reveals whether they protected top performers or made political decisions. Their answer tells you everything about how they'll treat you when things get tough. Better to walk away from the wrong offer than accept it and spend two years recovering 🎯 Comment ELITE for my newsletter on interview questions that reveal what companies won't volunteer. #jobinterview #interviewquestions #careeradvice #joboffer #interviewtips #jobsearch #careerstrategy #interviewprep #careerafter50 #jobofferquestions #interviewadvice #redflags #jobsearchtips #careercoach #hiringprocess #interviewskills #jobacceptance #careerprotection #smartinterviewing #duediligence

One question that catches so many people out in interviews is this. “You’ve only been in your current role for 6 months. Why are you leaving?” And this is where people panic and start explaining everything. Talking about bad managers. Low pay. Or how the company was toxic. But strong hiring managers are not interested in workplace drama. They care about how you think. The key is to position it as progression not escape. Instead of focusing on what you are leaving, focus on what you are moving towards. Show that you explored your options internally, realised where you want to take your career long term, and that this opportunity aligns better with your strengths and growth. Keep it calm. Keep it intentional. Keep it future focused. That is how professionals move in interviews. I broke into tech sales with zero experience and have now helped 100+ women do the same and land high paying remote roles. If you want the exact step by step training, comment TECH and I will send it to you. #interviewtips #careeradvice #techsales #jobsearch #interviewquestions

But I believe every interview is a learning experience. I’ll request feedback from you so I can understand where I went wrong and work on those areas before my next opportunity.” Why it works: Shows maturity, emotional balance, and eagerness to improve. ✅“If you reject me today, I’ll still consider this interview a win — because I got to learn about your organization and meet people who inspire me. I’ll take your feedback positively, work on myself, and come back stronger — maybe even reapply in the future when I’m more ready.” Why it works: Reflects positive mindset, persistence, and respect for the company. ✅Growth-Oriented (for Freshers) “I understand rejection is part of the process. If I am not selected today, I’ll see it as a sign that I still have room to grow. I’ll keep improving my skills and confidence so that next time, whether here or elsewhere, I’ll be fully prepared to earn the position.” ✨Why it works: Shows humility, self-awareness, and a hunger to learn — great for... ✨In my work: Shows humility, self-awareness, and a hunger to learn — great for early career candidates! 📍If you want career related services then Dm us. ✨CV creation, interview preparation, counselling and other corporate requirements.
